A three-minute walk from the Portland Museum of Art, the State Theatre, and numerous superior restaurants, this lovely 2 bedroom, 1 bath condo, located in The Malborough, a 1910 Portland landmark, is not to be missed!

The current owner, who purchased it more than 20 years ago as a pied a terre in downtown Portland, has appreciated the building's solidity, its functional design for multiple units, its gracious shared foyers, back stairs, clear entries, and well-thought out spaces. The management's pride in caring for this wonderful historic building is evident in its condition, the grounds, and the high value available here. The landmark welcomes with an octagonal lobby, decorative woodwork, and terrazzo floors. Gracious, tall ceilings, period millwork, and double-paned Pella windows in the unit create a bright, airy feel that marries vintage character with modern comfort. Recent updates include fresh interior paint throughout and new overhead lighting. Outside, in the warmer months, residents enjoy a charming shared backyard garden, a peaceful spot to read, relax, or entertain. Perfect if you are looking for a new home, investment property or or home away from home!

A beloved 1886 landmark begins a new chapter. Rooted on the Eastport waterfront and known for decades as The Commons, this historic building carries the quiet strength of resilience, care, and community devotion. One of the treasured structures within Eastport’s National Historic District, it now passes into the hands of new stewards—hands-on visionaries ready to honor its legacy while imagining what comes next. Being part of this transition felt deeply personal, weaving together my past work in community development with Maine nonprofits/foundations and my present path in real estate, in a place that has always had a special pull. Grateful to have represented both buyer and seller in this sale.

In 1976, on a childhood trip to Deer Island, Canada, I passed through Eastport, Maine—and the sight startled me. Water Street, the town’s main thoroughfare, lined with magnificent historic buildings, were all shuttered behind sheets of plywood. It felt like closest thing to a ghost town I had ever seen. Eastport resurfaced on my radar in the 1980s, this time in a very different light. As editor of a coastal art magazine, I began hearing whispers of artists migrating to Maine’s easternmost city, drawn by its magnificent waterfront views, its grit, and its extraordinary architecture. They were rolling up their sleeves to restore the 31 remarkable buildings in the Eastport Historic District—structures raised during the boom years of the global sardine industry. Fast-forward to today, and those early efforts have blossomed into a full-fledged revival. Thanks to the tenacity of Eastport’s citizens, the vision of the Tides Institute & Museum of Art, and the leadership of champions of Maine’s architectural and cultural heritage, most of the historic district now hums with life. Once-empty storefronts are home to thriving businesses, galleries, and gathering places. One giant, however, remained asleep: the 30,000-square-foot sardine can factory, birthplace of the innovative “roll-top can.” Its recent owners fought valiantly to bring it back, only to be thwarted time and again by forces beyond their control. Happily, that chapter has turned. Just last week, the factory began a new story—purchased by investors deeply committed to its restoration and reuse. Once again, Eastport’s most iconic building is poised to rejoin the life of the city, not as a relic of the past, but as a cornerstone of its future. And, auspiciously - the descendant of a former can maker at the factory - has been a lantern for this building, and is set to play a key role in its transformation. A happy story with a new chapter waiting to be written. To be continued... Congratulations to both the sellers and the buyers for holding the light for the old "Lantern by the Sea."

Before Eastport became the destination for summer cruise ships, home of galleries, a distinctive wine bar, local brewery & hip handmade clothing, Maine's most eastern city played a pivotal role in the worldwide sardine industry as home to the 30,000 square foot 1908 American Can Company, famous for innovating the gold standard "roll top can." For 20 years, the current owners of this impressive structure have devoted considerable resources into protecting the building, & 3 adjacent lots - with the goal of seeing it protected & repurposed. The sellers are actively seeking new owners with the right expertise & resources. Think the once abandoned mill in Skowhegan, which reopened this year as the boutique hotel, The Spinning Mill. The Eastport building and land have been priced to sell, knowing the next owner will need to invest heavily to creatively re-use the structure. Offer price: $150,000
