Trying to decide where to live in Portland? Letâs talk East vs. Westâbecause people ALWAYS want to know the difference. đ
Laurelhurst and Multnomah Village are actually a perfect example of how differentâand weirdly similarâthe two sides can be.
Laurelhurst gives you classic inner Eastside Portland: big old Craftsmans and Tudors, kids taking over Laurelhurst Park, huge trees, neighbors who actually know each other, and NE 28th basically acting as your extended kitchen.
Multnomah Village feels like its own little town tucked into SW Portland: winding, hilly streets, mid-century homes and cottages, Gabriel Park down the road, Annie Bloomâs for books, Marcoâs for breakfast, and a legit little main street where you can eat, shop, grab a drink and run into someone you know.
And hereâs whatâs interesting: both attract people looking for almost the same damn thing.
They want character instead of cookie-cutter.â¨They want trees and parks and kids outside.â¨They want local restaurants theyâll actually become regulars at.â¨They want neighbors they know by name.â¨And they want to feel connected to Portland without feeling like they live in the middle of downtown.
The difference is really in how you want that life to feel.
Laurelhurst feels more historic, close-in and plugged into the energy of the Eastside. Multnomah Village feels a little more tucked away, independent and âwe have everything we need right here.â
