Juneteenth in Oregon: What’s happening, what’s changed and what’s closed for the federal holiday?

In 1972, Clara Peoples and Ora Lee Green organized Portland’s first Juneteenth parade and public celebration. This year, Juneteenth Oregon celebrates Portland’s 50th annual Juneteenth event Saturday and Sunday with a free festival of food, live music, a beer garden, kids activities and close to 100 vendors. CLOSING COSTS
The fate of $258 million in affordable housing bond funds is sealed. Did city officials follow their own guidelines in giving out the money?

Shannon Callahan, director of the Portland Housing Bureau, gathered with other local leaders on May 10 at the freshly completed Crescent Court Apartments to celebrate the opening of 138 new homes in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood.

She stressed the need for more homes and noted how this was the first new-construction building that had opened thanks to the Portland Housing Bond.

The fate of $258 million in affordable housing bond funds is sealed.

Portland job fair aims to help students of color, young people see path to real estate careers.

Organizers of a real estate job fair aimed at minority students and young people are hoping for a good turnout this weekend for their big debut.

The job fair taking place thanks to The Real Life, a real estate nonprofit. The event is geared toward people ages 14 to 24 and runs from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday at Self Enhancement Inc. at 3920 N. Kerby Ave. Some 30 exhibitors, including the Fair Housing Council of Oregon, will show up. Attendees can get headshots for LinkedIn profiles.

Most of the American real estate workforce is white. A Portland event hopes a younger demographic can change that profile.
