As October starts to wind down, I felt the need to boost a last chance announcement to grab this month's copy of Maine Home & Design. You get to see my ugly mug in the contributers section, but most importantly, the article about the house we built with Mike Maines and a very talented group of people. So much care went into this work and I am proud that our company was able to perform the build and the custom woodwork. There are too many people to list here, who's contributions made this happen but we tried to name them all in the back of the magazine so have a look!

Joining forces with Casco Bay Insulation Casco Bay Insulation, Inc and Kaplan Thompson Architects Kaplan Thompson Architects to do a learning module on blower doors test. This is the first of 4 tests we are doing on this particular project, in order to measure different phases of airsealing and to try and quantify some costs associated with each. This will help us work within budgetary contraints and identify the impacts of design and the cost to build.

It was also a chance to teach those onsite and in the office, some the reasons for airsealing and the effects of holes in our building envelopes. Donuts provided by Tony's Donuts of course.

After some initial delays, we have seperation and liftoff. Suffering from powder post beetle damage, failed foundation and rotten floor system, this antique Falmouth Foreside home is about to get a new lease on life as we lift and excavate a new foundation and floor system and address internal mechanicals and some energy retrofits. Going up a vouple more feet!

Loving this crew. The Architecture and Building industry can be a complex and chaotic space. It is important that the teams involved have each other's backs and support each other during work and outside of it. If we're lucky we can catch glimpses of it. Happy Friday!

We like to reuse as much as possible. Our South Portland DER and Addition is a tricky framing job but we saved the old balloon framed home and sheathing and adjusted the third floor for accessibility. How do you age in place in a third storey home? With an elevator of course! Fully staged by us. Safety first.

Lots of heavy metal in this one. Working on opening up a low ceiling house built in the 1990s. Massive structural upgrades using some of the largest pieces of steel that we have put into a project. Our crew surgically inserted two steel beams to carry the cantilevered garrison framing and the another to create a structural ridge. This .obwi design from 2 years ago is finally coming to life. Soon to be a great kitchen addition and a spacious ground floor gathering space.

We had a soft handover of our Casco Bay project to our clients on Friday. This is one of the most complex buildings that we have worked on so far and we are very proud of it. All of our employees and subcontractors that have worked on this project contributed some very high quality work. helped us steer the day to day in the field and his attention to detail shines through. Our fabrication shop custom built all of the cabinetry, built-ins and woodworking details and we are presently wrapping up all of the doors and drawer faces in our punch list.

We are not only proud of the high quality and detail but also of the performance. Designed by .design, this ultimate , consists of a double stud wall system, primarily low carbon construction and is fully electric aside from the gas backup generator and backup gas fireplaces.

We had the incredible opportunity to visit the facility in Ruswil, Switzerland and learn about the production processes and laboratory trials behind some of the world’s most advanced building envelope solutions.
