Portland does Halloween a little differently, and that’s exactly why I love it. 🎃👻

From spooky haunted houses and pumpkin patches to neighborhood trick-or-treating and local bakeries serving up Halloween treats, there’s so much happening around Portland this October!

And if you’re anything like me, you’d rather spend your weekends enjoying fall than scrolling through endless event pages trying to make plans.

So I rounded up some Portland-area Halloween favorites in one place!

CHAPTER 3 | CELEBRATING THE KEYS 🔑🏡

Three Offers. A Little Patience. One Very Happy Homeowner!

Congratulations to Jan on her beautiful new Castleberry home! ❤️

This summer, Jan made three competitive offers. Each time, other buyers were willing to pay more than she felt the homes were worth.

So she walked away.

A few months later, we found a wonderful home that had been on the market for over two weeks. No bidding war, just an opportunity to negotiate.

✨ The result? $20,000 below asking price!

Here’s why timing the market isn’t always about getting the lowest interest rate.

Imagine a similar home selling for $600,000 during the competitive summer market at 6.85% interest.

Jan purchased her home for $560,000. Even at a higher example rate of 7.25%, with 20% down, her estimated principal and interest payment would be approximately $89 LESS per month.

That’s a $40,000 difference in purchase price in this hypothetical comparison, despite the higher rate!

Here’s what I remind my buyers:

You can potentially refinance your interest rate. You can’t renegotiate yesterday’s purchase price.

If rates decrease, refinancing may lower your payment, depending on qualification, equity, and costs. Nothing is guaranteed.

We also worked through inspection findings with trusted contractors, obtained repair estimates, and negotiated a credit for Jan to address the work after closing.

The lesson?

Sometimes the smartest move isn’t winning the bidding war. It’s knowing when to walk away and recognizing the right opportunity.

The longer I’m in real estate, the less impressed I am by the things that look impressive on Instagram.

The number of homes sold. The perfectly staged photos. The deals that seem to come together effortlessly.

Because here’s what I’ve learned about Portland real estate:

The most important parts of my job are usually the things you never see.

It’s catching an inspection concern before it becomes an expensive surprise.

It’s knowing when to negotiate, when to ask another question, and when to tell a client that a home might not be the right fit.

It’s understanding that buying in St. Johns can look very different from buying in Sellwood, and that the right home isn’t always the one with the prettiest kitchen.

And sometimes, it’s simply being the calm voice when things don’t go according to plan.

I don’t believe a successful transaction is just one that closes.

It’s one where my clients feel informed, protected, and confident about the decisions they’ve made.

The best part isn’t the closing. It’s knowing someone felt supported getting there. 🤍

Buying or selling a home comes with a lot of decisions, questions, negotiations, and sometimes a few unexpected turns along the way.

October in Portland is basically an excuse to make plans every weekend.

Fresh-hop beers, pumpkin patches, neighborhood Halloween displays, farmers markets, new restaurants, and yes, people racing across a lake inside giant pumpkins. Very Portland. 😂

I pulled together some of the things actually happening around Portland this October so you don’t have to spend an hour searching for weekend plans.

A few I’m adding to the list: the Giant Pumpkin Regatta, a morning at the PSU Farmers Market, pumpkin picking on Sauvie Island, and seeing what Irvington comes up with for

Halloween this year.

Save this for the next time someone asks, “What should we do this weekend?”
