I can’t do custom all the time even if I want to….I also have budget constraints just like everyone else. Almost every light in my South Tabor project is from and even this vanity is, dare I say it, something-depot.

Here’s the thing, almost every item can be “semi-custom,” it just takes time. And in construction time usually = $$ when you’re not doing the work yourself, for yourself. Clients ask me to do this all the time, but I can’t. It just doesn’t make financial sense to do this for others, but I’m here to tell you, it’s possible to do it for yourself! Just like I did.

This vanity will get a new top. A remnant from my countertop supplier or a scrap that will be leftover from our kitchen. Who knows maybe I’ll even figure out some cool backsplash.

But I just want to remind you that creativity is FREE when you’re doing it for yourself! And you can!

Also, if you need a 48” marble countertop with a deck mounted widespread faucet, let me know!

The bathroom continues to come together. Still need to find a mirror though.

Wanna know something funny? After you’ve had a really amazing service experience, it’s really not hard not go backwards to the “cheaper” option.

Think about getting your first dishwasher or if you’re lucky enough that first step onto heated bathroom floors. Or maybe that one trip to that over the top hotel? . It feels like you’re being taken care of. You’re not worried so much about exact price, just being taken care of and knowing someone is looking out for you! Of course you don’t want to overpay, no wants that, but you’re willing to pay for things to be done right the very first time.

When I walked in and saw these samples on the ground I felt just that way. Taken care of. I wasn’t just given a fan book, I could see the samples in my space, with my light. I could see them on my wood floors. This is the level of service strives for. This is the driving force behind how I want to change expectations in the construction industry, one client at a time.

Which one do you like best?

Almost after, before, and before-before.

Really digging this Portland Plum Bungalow. Glad we took the risk with this color. I’m REALLY happy with the choice, now all we need is a door color.

Tomorrow we start painting on the inside.

Let me explain. This tub full of water means 1 thing, we’re ready for plumbing inspections. We’re also ready for HVAC and Electrical inspections.

Things are moving along and although I’ve been removing wallpaper for what seems like forever, today I’ll be done with that too!

Testing, testing 1,2,3….

Did you know a contractor cannot legally bid on your remodel project if it was built before 1978 and they don’t have a lead based paint certificate in Oregon?

We may have found a place back down in SE Portland. It’s rough. It’s hasn’t been lived in for 4 years so whatever the worst you can think of, is probably true. But hopefully at the end of the month it will be ours.

I was worried about getting too excited and posting about something that wouldn’t work out and realized this happens to all of us! Sometimes things work out, sometimes they don’t. I’m leaning in. I’m excited. I want to share.

We’ll be moving into this project just like the last one. My goal is to explain the process of a renovation, how it works, our priorities and decisions along the way. There will be mistakes, there will be surprises and yes, many unexpected bills.

We’re using a renovation loan to purchase this property with 5% down and the repairs are budgeted into the cost. Wanna know what we’re planning? Here’s the list so far:

Decommission Oil Tank
New furnace & AC
New Electrical Panel
New Roof
Siding Repairs as Needed
New Paint EVERYWHERE
New Kitchen
New Bathrooms
Oak Flooring Refinished

Are you still with me????

I made a mistake. Sometimes these things happen. When I do, I put on my big girl pants and put em up to it. When you’re making a million decisions in a remodel a mistake is bound to happen.

Wanna know what the mistake was? Maybe you can tell by the photo? It’s the trim paint.

I was pretty confident we’d chose the right one until it was on the walls with the tile. However, the minute I saw it I knew it needed to change. I owned up to it, and told my clients who hadn’t said “a thing.”

Here’s the deal: I made a mistake, I didn’t want them to “need to come to me to ask for it to be fixed.” I wanted to show them a different level of service. This is the way a design/build company should work. Therefore, if I see something wrong on a project, know I will fix it. If we work together, I’ll be with you to the end. And if I make a mistake, I’ll make it right.
