Moving to Portland with a dog? The neighborhood you choose matters just as much as the house. Portland has 30+ off-leash dog parks and welcomes leashed dogs in nearly every park in the city — but some neighborhoods make daily dog life so much easier than others. Here are 5 Portland neighborhoods worth putting on your list if you're relocating with a four-legged family member.

🏡 Sellwood-Moreland — my all-around pick. An off-leash riverfront park, easy access to the Springwater Corridor, classic yards, and dog-friendly patios nearby.
🌲 Mt. Tabor — for dogs who need their miles. A 176-acre park with trails, hills, and an off-leash area right in the neighborhood.
☕ Alberta Arts & Concordia — walkable and dog-social. Patios, cafés, and food carts where your dog is part of the scene.
🐕 Woodstock — the underrated pick. Historic homes, fenced yards, and an easy walk to coffee or dinner.
🌳 Rose City Park — for off-leash regulars. Home to Normandale Park's fenced off-leash area in a quiet, residential setting.

My best relocation tip: test-drive a neighborhood with your dog before you buy. Walk it at your usual time, check the sidewalks and traffic, and see how far it really is to the park.
