Make plans to join us in tomorrow night for First Friday.

First Friday is all about the locally owned shops and businesses that make this neighborhood what it is. Doors stay open later, there are specials and pop-ups to stumble into, plus free live music at Village Park from 5–7:30 with Avery Baz followed by Tevis Hodge Jr.

We’ll have the fire going and the s’mores ready for a casual end-of-the-week hang. Come by, stay awhile, or make us one of your stops while you wander the Village. We’ll also be collecting non-perishable food and new hygiene products for Positive Charge PDX, so bring something along if you’d like to donate.

7830 SW 35th Ave
(across from Marco’s Café + The Ship)

Hope to see you around the fire!

A little heads-up for anyone who regularly travels through the Rose Quarter.

Beginning Friday, September 11, I-5 southbound is expected to close between I-405 and I-84 while crews complete some major repair work. The closure could last up to five weeks, and while there will be detours, getting through and around this part of town may take quite a bit longer than usual.

Nothing to panic about, just something worth knowing if this is part of your daily route or you’ll be heading through the area.

For closure details, detours and ongoing updates, visit the i5rosequarter.org or search “I-5 Rose Quarter Improvement Project.”

Here’s a look at what’s on the market this week between $700K and $1M, where the same budget can take you in some very different directions depending on the neighborhood, the house and what matters most to you.

Take a look, see what catches your eye, and if browsing turns into maybe it’s time to actually explore this, reach out. We’ll help you find the right local agent to figure out what’s possible and where to start.

If you’re into homes with cedar walls, vaulted ceilings, big windows and some really great original Northwest character, this one in Maplewood is worth a look. It’s been beautifully cared for over the years, but thankfully no one remodeled all the personality out of it.

For those of us who love crisp mornings, cozy layers and anything warm and spiced, that season is almost here and it’s bringing some pretty awesome happenings along with it. We pulled together a few that caught our eye, with a whole lot more where these came from.

Did you know young sunflowers follow the sun? They start the day facing east, turn west as the sun moves across the sky, then reset overnight to face the next sunrise. It’s called heliotropism. Once they’re fully grown, they stop following the sun and stay facing east.

There’s a short window when Oregon corn, tomatoes, beans and herbs are all showing off at the same time. This is what you make with them. This month’s Local Flavor comes from Chef Roberto Almodovar and the Portland Farmers Market’s Chef in the Market series: a bright Summer Succotash Salad with smoky paprika aioli.

Want to make it? DM us and we’ll send the full recipe your way.

Opening September 5 at the Portland Art Museum, The Stars We Do Not See: Australian Indigenous Art is the largest exhibition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art ever presented in North America, with 147 works by more than 100 artists.

Even better, Portland is the only West Coast stop.

The exhibition runs through January 3, 2027, so there’s plenty of time to see it, but we’re calling this one out early. Add it to your fall list.

Hillsboro has a lot more going on than Intel and a drive out Highway 26.

There’s an interesting mix here: old neighborhoods and brand-new ones, a historic downtown, serious food and b**r, farmland just beyond the city limits, and some of the biggest names in tech quietly powering a huge piece of the local economy. It’s a place where Silicon Forest meets Oregon roots, and that combination makes Hillsboro worth a closer look.
We pulled together the bigger picture, from how Hillsboro grew to what it’s like to live, work and play there today.
