Yesterday, we celebrated the groundbreaking of Depot Terraces in Freeport — an exciting step forward in expanding attainable homeownership opportunities in Maine.

This 45-unit condominium development is the second by Domus, a collaborative effort between Avesta Housing, developer Jack Soley, and Hebert Construction, LLC. It will bring new one- and two-bedroom homes to Freeport’s downtown core, creating a new pathway to homeownership for working individuals and families while supporting the Town’s broader vision for a more vibrant, walkable, transit-connected village center.

Depot Terraces reflects what strong partnerships can accomplish: creating housing that helps people live, work, and build equity in the communities they serve.

We look forward to welcoming future residents in Summer 2027.

Join us! At 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, Domus will host a groundbreaking ceremony for Depot Terraces in Freeport, Maine. Located at 45 Depot Street, Depot Terraces is a 45-unit condominium building developed specifically to address the growing need for attainable workforce housing in Maine.

The one- and two-bedroom energy-efficient condominiums at Depot Terraces are priced to be affordable for households with average incomes, making them ideal for people seeking a high-quality place to live and build equity.

Depot Terraces is the second project by Domus, a joint venture between three Portland-based housing developers: Avesta Housing, the largest nonprofit affordable housing developer in northern New England; Jack Soley, a longtime developer of residential and commercial projects in the Portland area; and Hebert Construction, LLC a fourth generation, family-owned construction firm.

Last year, we created 133 new homes, renovated 90 existing homes, and provided resources such as community meals, after-school programs, and educational activities to more than 20,000 people.

In the process, we generated more than 125,000 hours of construction employment, supported hundreds of local businesses, provided quality assisted living and independent living options for older adults, and utilized development practices that will make our homes environmentally sustainable for decades to come.

Allowing the construction of more Accessory Dwelling Units ( ) is a common-sense approach to addressing the shortage. We were part of a statewide commission tasked in 2021 with studying zoning and land use restrictions in Maine, leading to the landmark LD 2003 legislation that made it easier for property owners to build ADUs on their land. On Thursday, we were honored to accept a Notable Project Award at a ceremony hosted by the Maine Real Estate and Development Association at USM in Portland. The award was presented for our work on the community in partnership with Lewiston Housing, providing 82 new affordable homes for individuals and families in .
