A lot of buyers think success means finding the perfect house in the perfect neighborhood.

But sometimes the smartest move is choosing the home that gets you into the market — even if it’s just outside your original search area.

That’s exactly what I did, and it changed what was possible for me long term.

If you’ve been feeling stuck or priced out, let’s talk strategy.

Most buyers don’t get unstuck because prices change.

They get unstuck because their thinking changes.

Most first-time buyers don’t realize this until they’re already frustrated.

If you’re waiting for the “perfect” first home, you might be missing the opportunity that actually gets you in.

DM me “START” if you want to see what smart first homes actually look like in Portland.

For a lot of buyers in the Portland area, that might look like:

• a condo instead of a detached home
• an older home that needs some updates
• a location that’s a stepping stone, not a forever spot

And that’s not settling —
that’s strategy.

Because once you’re in the market, you’re building equity, gaining experience, and creating options for your next move.
The goal isn’t perfection.

It’s getting into a home that works for right now — without putting yourself in a risky position.

That’s why I guide my clients step-by-step so they understand what’s realistic, what’s possible, and how to make a smart first move.

Thinking about buying your first home in Portland but not sure what’s realistic for you?

DM me FIRSTHOME and we’ll walk through your options together.

I get it! When you first put your house on the market, you were hopeful for a quick sale. While you shouldn’t panic if the house doesn’t sell immediately, as market times are slightly higher than in a long time, you should re-evaluate if showings are down and no offers have come in.

If this is the case, here are 11 reasons why your house may not be selling:

1. You overvalued your property

2. Poorly done listing photos and/or descriptions drastically cut down showing activity

3. You are always present at showings which makes it really awkward for buyers

4. You haven’t had your home professionally cleaned. A home that is on the market needs to be the cleanest it’s ever been

5. Your home isn’t staged

6. You kept all of your personal décor out

7. Home improvements are too personalized. White paint goes a long way!

8. Your home is cluttered

9. Your home needs too many repairs

10. The pet odor is overwhelming

11. You chose the wrong real estate agent

The longer your property stays on the market, the less likely it will sell at listing price. One of the best ways to avoid making these common mistakes is working with the right estate agent.
