In 2022, Portland lost a long-time eatery and venue just steps away from the Portland Art Museum. After nearly 20 years of serving up good food, live music and a welcoming vibe, Dogfish Bar & Grille closed its doors on Free Street. Known for its legendary open mic nights and laid-back atmosphere, Dogfish was more than just a bar—it was a community hub where many local musicians got their start, including Griffin Sherry of The Ghost of Paul Revere. 🎸

The decision to close came after challenges brought on by the pandemic, staffing shortages, and ongoing construction in the Congress Square area that made access difficult.

In the meantime, a new spot called The Downtown Social will soon take its place, aiming to keep the community spirit alive at this iconic location. Stay tuned for what’s next! 🌟

Did you know? Tucked away in the charming Arts District of Portland is the iconic Carroll Mansion, once home to Julia Clapp Carroll and her husband, to***co merchant John Bryce Carroll! 🏛️

Julia, a member of one of Portland's most prominent 19th-century families, was the daughter of real estate developer Charles Quincy Clapp and granddaughter of famed businessman Asa Clapp. In 1843, she married John, and together, they became the namesake of this beautiful home. 🏡

Fast forward to 1984, the historic mansion was transformed into modern condos, blending Portland’s rich past with today’s vibrant community. 🕰️➡️🏙️
