➤ CHECK KITCHEN APPLIANCES
Ensure that your kitchen appliances, especially those you’ll be using extensively for cooking the Thanksgiving meal, are in good working order. Check the oven, stove, microwave, and other appliances to avoid last-minute surprises.
➤ INSPECT SMOKE DETECTOR
Even if you’re a great cook 😉 Test and replace batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. With increased cooking, perhaps a lit fireplace, and potentially more people in the home, it’s crucial to have functioning detectors to ensure everyone’s safety.
➤ CLEAR AND LIGHT THE WAY FOR GUESTS
If you’re having guests over, make sure your home is well-lit and that potential tripping hazards are addressed. Inspect staircases, handrails, and outdoor pathways to ensure safe passage for your guests. During daylight-savings time, it gets darker even sooner than usual, so don’t underestimate the power of great outdoor lighting.
➤ SECURE LOOSE RUGS AND CARPETS
This tip usually gets overlooked — to prevent tripping hazards, ensure that loose carpets or rugs are secured, especially in high-traffic areas.
