I always start with the same question: are you buying for privacy and long-term value, or for energy and convenience?
That single answer tells you almost everything you need to know about where to put your money in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire.
If walkability, a quieter waterfront, and a neighborhood that holds its value matter to you, look at towns with an established, low-turnover feel first, not just the ones with the most listings online. A town’s character doesn’t show up in photos, and it’s usually the thing buyers regret not weighing heavily enough.
If you want more going on, restaurants, foot traffic, a livelier scene, that’s a completely valid priority too. Just know you’re trading some of that quiet, established charm for it.
Neither choice is wrong. It just depends on what you actually want your day-to-day to feel like, not what looks best on paper.
