One of my favorite things about Coeur d’Alene is that some of the best parts of this community aren’t the flashy ones.

Take the Coeur d’Alene Public Library.

Its roots go back more than a century, starting with 48 local women, 235 donated books, and—according to the story—a wheelbarrow.

Today, it has a beautiful home near McEuen Park and the lake. But the part I like most isn’t necessarily the building. It’s what the library represents.

This community has changed a lot over the years, but places like this remind you that Coeur d’Alene has always been shaped by people willing to invest in where they live.

That’s part of what makes North Idaho a pretty special place to call home.

One of the best parts of living in North Idaho is having places like Rathdrum Mountain right in our backyard.

For years, locals have headed up the mountain for forest roads, ATV rides, wildlife, and some pretty great views of the Rathdrum Prairie.

Now there’s another reason to check it out: the City of Rathdrum’s Story Walk trail.

It’s a family-friendly trail that combines a walk through the woods with pages from a children’s story along the way. You’ll follow the trail past a creek, across small bridges, through the trees, and on to the next page.

Simple idea. Pretty great way to spend some time outside with the family.

Places like this are a good reminder that the North Idaho lifestyle isn’t just about where you live. It’s what you get to do when you walk out the front door.
