In smaller North Idaho towns, the local school can be about a lot more than what happens during the school day.
Athol Elementary is a good example. Serving around 350 students, it’s the northernmost elementary school in the Lakeland Joint School District and describes itself as a hub for the surrounding Athol community.
Beyond the classroom, the school hosts after-school programs and school events, while its facilities are also used for community athletics and other activities. Inside the school, programs like HEROS encourage students to Help, Encourage, and Respect Others.
That community connection is something you see throughout a lot of North Idaho’s smaller towns. Schools can become places where people gather, kids grow, and neighbors stay connected.
