We have had a property falsely listed for rent recently. Please be cautious. If it doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t.
🚨🚨SCAM ALERT🚨🚨
The Pratt Police Department has received multiple reports of rental scams involving properties advertised within the City of Pratt. Scammers are creating fake rental listings and charging prospective tenants application, background check, or processing fees before disappearing with the money. These payments are often requested through apps such as Venmo, PayPal, or Cash App.
To help protect yourself from rental scams:
☑️Contact the property owner or property management company directly using verified contact information.
☑️Be cautious of rental listings posted on social media or other online marketplaces, as it can be difficult to determine whether they are legitimate.
☑️Never send money for application fees, deposits, or other charges through payment apps to someone you have not verified.
If a rental price seems too good to be true, or you are pressured to send money quickly, it may be a scam.
☑️Whenever possible, tour the property in person or have someone you trust verify that it exists and is actually available for rent.
☑️Verify that the person advertising the property is authorized to rent it before providing personal information or making any payment.
If you believe you have been the victim of a rental scam, please contact the Pratt Police Department to file a report.
