Did you know that a 3-year old (top left image) and a 6-year old (top right image) have significantly different skeletal structure in their hands?! Notice the bones in the wrist of the 3-year old -- many of them are still mostly cartilage! Look at all the spaces in between the bones where muscles and tendons will change through the years. Even the difference between a 6-year old and a 14-year old (lower right) is huge!

Preschoolers have SO much development to do before they can write the way school-aged children or adults can!

Please do NOT stress if your preschooler does not want to write or draw. Some love it and some don't.

While they are growing, strengthen those little bones and muscles! Here are some great pre-writing, muscle-strengthening activities:

* painting, drawing, coloring
* playdough
* tearing and cutting
* gluing
* poking holes in things (try toothpicks and paper!)
* digging in dirt
* building with LEGOS, marble runs, or other blocks
* beading (try beads, cut straws, or even bobbins!)
* puzzles
* squeezing (try stress balls, squeezing water in a sponge, or using a pipette)
* picking up and throwing balls (use different sizes!)
* playing with toys (watch what their little fingers do when they pick up and move little cars, marbles, action figures, etc!)
These all strengthen and help develop little hands, muscles, and bones. When they are physically ready to write, it will be so much easier than if they were pushed when they didn't want to and weren't ready!

YCSO RECOVERS STOLEN MILITARY EQUIPMENT, ASKS PUBLIC’S HELP LOCATING SUSPECT

Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office Detectives, working with US Army Criminal Investigators have made several arrests in the July theft of a 31-foot flatbed trailer carrying a container of US Military equipment.

On June 29, 2022, the driver of the truck pulling the flatbed trailer experienced engine problems while enroute from California to Kansas and pulled off Interstate 40 into a gas station parking lot in Seligman, where he disconnected the trailer and left to get his truck fixed at a repair shop. Several days later the driver, who was staying at a local motel while his vehicle was being repaired, went to the gas station to check on the trailer and found it missing along with the shipping container holding approximately $500,000 of US Military equipment.

Through investigative leads YCSO Detectives were able to track the trailer to a residence in Chino Valley. Detectives arrested 75-year-old Chino Valley resident, Curt Wells, on charges of Possession and Trafficking Stolen Property. Wells had purchased the trailer, valued at approximately $22,000, for $900 from the thieves.

Diligent investigative efforts by YCSO Detectives and Army CID have led to the recovery of most of the stolen equipment and the arrests of, 43-year-old Chino Valley man, Jason Myers, 41-year-old Joshua Arena of Paulden and 65-year-old Gary Morrison of Paulden. All men are being charged with Theft and Trafficking Stolen Property. A fourth suspect, 51-year-old Chino Valley resident, Jason Parker remains at large.

Yavapai Silent Witness is offering an $800 cash reward for information leading to Parker’s arrest. To earn the reward, you must contact the Yavapai Silent Witness at (800) 932-3232 or visit yavapaisw.com to make a tip. All calls and tips are anonymous. You never have to give your name.
