I’ve walked 30+ miles this year and only found a few fresh antlers….

The other day I saw a young ten wearing both antlers still, today I pulled my cams and see this from 3 days ago in my plots.

Maybe I’m not crazy after all!

First and only fresh antler I found last weekend. This is the deepest plug I’ve ever seen, ouch! It had the usual faint blood, and also some yellow film on the deepest part.

This is likely an abscess, or “skull infection” and from what I understand this deer won’t be around long. Always a shame, but Mother Nature is a cruel beast sometimes.

Walked 5.5 miles and confirmed that you shouldn’t bother looking for antlers before the end of the month…. Just wanted to make sure!

I’ve been running cuddelink cameras (non cellular) and decided to upgrade to the solar panel option. 154 days on this particular camera and haven’t touched the batteries one time.

Have 3 other cameras, some with 3 times the number of images and haven’t touched any of them. Massive cost savings and much less disturbance throughout the year!

This buck is into the turnip plot, it’s neat to see the herd react to the various things we do for them.

Who else is still chasing a buck? I haven’t hunted as much this year as I normally did, with a new job. My wife and I take turns throughout the season usually. Glad the weather is mild since I’m in a tree!

Winter front finally moving through here, best chance we’ve had at some full fields of deer all season. Hopefully the big boys get hungry finally!!

One of my favorite clover plots. It’s not very big, but my wife killed her biggest buck ever in this plot.

A simple fence post, combined with a flag pole holder and a branch… makes a great mock scrape setup. A perfect place to mount your camera and get inventory pics of your bucks.

Mrs. Midwest with her 2020 black powder buck. Just got it back today! This buck walked through two plots of ours, and just so happened to meet his maker when he got to the plot where she was waiting for him!
