Some homes ask a little more of you. This one asked for everything.
My friend lives in Shanghai. She asked me to sell her Princeton home while she was 7,000 miles away, and this home was a labor of love. I was the one on the ground for all of it. I hired and managed every vendor and oversaw every detail: the raccoons evicted and the attic cleared out, excess furniture removed, her personal items and valuables packed and safely stored, a new HVAC system installed, the electrical repaired, the front entrance gate rebuilt, then the whole home painted, staged, and prepped for market.
We listed it, and three strong offers came in fast. But the pool was the sticking point. She could have sold as is. Instead she made the right call, and we pulled the home off for the winter. In the spring we rebuilt the pool properly. New plaster, new coping, new tile, a new heater.
We re-listed in April. Then a city water line burst at the front of the house. Then a colony of honeybees settled into the soffit. Beekeepers relocated the hive, and we rebuilt and repainted every bit of it.
Through all of it, we stayed close over WeChat, half a world apart. She trusted me with everything, and we worked seamlessly and harmoniously together. We negotiated a strong offer, and the home closed on August 31.
A great sale is rarely a straight line. It takes someone who treats your home like their own, and never cuts a corner.
