Daylight Saving Time ends in two weeks, on Sunday, November 1. The time changes at 2:00 a.m., when most people are asleep. Consider changing your clocks before bed on Halloween night, Saturday, October 31, to avoid confusion in the morning! 🎃

Of course, not all states abide by Daylight Saving Time. Most of the states do, but Hawaii and most of Arizona do not. One notable exception in Arizona is the Navajo Nation—they do observe Daylight Saving Time. The U.S. territories of American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands also do not observe Daylight Saving Time.

Common perception is that Daylight Saving Time was created to help farmers gain more time in the fields. However, that lore isn't true. The United States started using Daylight Saving Time in 1918 during World War I to help reduce the use of electricity.

Did you know those brilliant reds, oranges, and yellows were hiding all summer long? It’s true! 🍁🍂🍁🍂

The vibrant hues you see when the leaves change aren’t just about chilly weather—they’re all about sunlight, chemistry, and clever trees getting ready for winter. But the main reason for the eye-popping color change is not autumn’s chilly weather but sunlight—or rather, the lack of daylight.

Day and night are roughly equal in length on the autumnal equinox in late September, but afterward, nights are growing longer and days shorter. Learn more about the natural phenomenon at Almanac.com/why-do-leaves-change-color-fall 🍁🍂🍁🍂
