Sorry for the “potty” mouth 🚽
This isn’t completely on brand for me, and it’s actually hard to believe this is a real PSA, but I’m prepared to die on this hill.
Last weekend, an agent hosting an open house at my listing discovered that someone had used the bathroom during a previous showing… and didn’t flush 😒
Sadly, this isn’t that uncommon.
And before anyone says it, I understand emergencies happen.
But generally speaking? I don’t think buyers or agents should be using the bathrooms during showings.
Not because I’m trying to be rude or difficult.
👉🏼 Because it’s someone else’s home.
Whether the house is occupied or vacant, a showing isn’t an invitation to treat the property like a public building.
Beyond being awkward (and kind of inconsiderate) there are real liability concerns. Did the toilet flush properly? Is the water off? Did something overflow after the showing? Who’s responsible if it does?
And yes, people have flooded listings during showings before (I know agents who have gone through this) and yes, someone has gone #2 in one of my listings before and did not flush 😳DURING AN OPEN HOUSE.
Most showings only last 20–30 minutes. We ask people not to open dresser drawers, not to go through personal belongings, not to let their kids jump on furniture... and I tend to put using the bathroom in that same category.
Maybe I’m on an island here, but I’ve always felt that if you can hold it, you should.
Am I alone on this one? ⬇️💩
