When President George W. Bush stood atop the smoking rubble of Ground Zero with a bullhorn, he didn’t just speak to the weary rescue workers, he spoke for a completely unified nation. In that devastating moment, there were no political lines or social divisions. Labels fell away, and we were bound entirely by our shared humanity, resilience, and love for one another. It is easy to look around today and feel like we are hopelessly divided. But the truth is, we still have far more in common than what is portrayed on our screens. The same courage, kindness, and unbreakable spirit that pulled us through the ashes of 9/11 still live inside us today.

Today, let’s honor the 2,977 lives lost and the heroes who ran toward danger by choosing unity over division. Let’s remember who we are when we stand shoulder-to-shoulder.
