HUGE Florida Property Tax Overhaul Proposal! Is Your Home on the List? 🏡

📣 Hey Florida homeowners! Governor DeSantis just laid out a massive plan that could drastically reduce or even ELIMINATE property taxes on homesteaded homes. Here’s the breakdown:

Phase 1 (Immediate): Increase the homestead exemption from $50,000 up to $250,000! This could mean 60% of Florida homeowners pay ZERO property tax right away.

The Big Goal: The long-term plan is to keep increasing the exemption until property taxes are completely gone. A future $500,000 exemption would cover 92% of homeowners.

❌ Who is NOT included? This does not apply to investment properties, rentals, Airbnbs, second homes, or commercial buildings.

⚖️ Why is it controversial?

Critics Say: Local governments worry about massive budget holes for critical services like police, fire, schools, and infrastructure.

Supporters Say: It protects residents from crushing assessed values and rising insurance costs, ensuring they don't get "rented from the government" for the home they already own.

🗳️ What’s Next? This is not law yet. It needs legislative approval and will be a Constitutional Amendment on the November ballot, requiring 60% voter approval.
