Hot take: I think a lot of people are trying way too hard to fix their marriage when they’ve forgotten to actually LIKE each other.
And I don’t mean date nights.
Or vacations.
Or buying each other things.
Or posting an anniversary picture once a year about how you’d “choose them all over again.”
I mean... do you genuinely like your person?
Are you kind to them?
Do you talk to them differently than you talk about them?
Do you root for them when they’re winning, or secretly keep score?
Do you make them feel like you’re their biggest fan, or their biggest critic?
Do you actually enjoy being around each other when there’s nothing planned, nobody else around and nothing exciting happening?
Because you can keep changing the date night, taking the trip, reading the book, listening to the podcast and trying the next thing..
..but if you keep coming home and treating each other the exact same way, what exactly are you expecting to change?
I’m not saying we have some secret formula for marriage.
But I know this:
I genuinely LIKE my husband.❤️
I respect him. I speak highly of him when he’s not in the room. I try to be as kind to him as I would be to anyone else I love... probably kinder.
And he gives that right back to me.
Maybe that sounds ridiculously simple.
I think simple gets overlooked a lot.
After over 30 years after we first met, I still look across a crowded room for him.
Still want to tell him everything.
Still want him beside me for the fun stuff, the boring stuff and everything in between.
So yes, we have friends.😂
I just happened to spend my life with the person l’d choose to hang out with anyway.
And I think that matters a hell of a lot more than we talk about.❤️
Happy 47th birthday baby. There’s no one else I’d rather spend my forever with!!! 💫
