Forget the Monster Under Your Bed. Have You Seen What's Under Your House? ๐Ÿ’€

Dark. Damp. Full of spiderwebs.

And occasionally, something moves. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Welcome to the crawlspace!

Our inspectors venture into places most homeowners would rather pretend don't exist.

But we're not hunting monsters. We're looking for moisture intrusion, damaged wood, plumbing leaks, pest activity, and other issues that could affect your home.

The real monsters? The problems that go unnoticed for years.

๐Ÿ‘ป We go into the creepy places so you don't have to!

Do you have a fire extinguisher? And would you know what to do with it?

Most of us hope we'll never need to use one. But if a small fire starts in your home, that's not the moment you want to be figuring out where the extinguisher is or how it work.

Here's your 5-minute home safety challenge:

โœ… Find it! Do you have a fire extinguisher that's easy to access? Keep one near the kitchen, but away from the stove so you can reach it safely.

โœ… Check it! Look for damage, check the pressure gauge if it has one, and follow the manufacturer's maintenance and replacement instructions.

โœ… A multipurpose ABC-rated extinguisher is a good option for many common household fires, including fires involving ordinary combustibles, flammable liquids, and electrical equipment.

โœ… Learn PASS! Remember these four steps:

P โ€“ Pull the pin
A โ€“ Aim at the base of the fire
S โ€“ Squeeze the handle
S โ€“ Sweep side to side

๐Ÿšจ **Here's the most important part:** Fire extinguishers are for small, contained fires ONLY. Make sure everyone is evacuating, call 911, and only attempt to use an extinguisher if you're trained, have a clear escape route, and can do so safely. When in doubt, GET OUT!

As home inspectors, we spend a lot of time identifying potential fire hazards. But we also want homeowners to be prepared if something goes wrong.

Your assignment today: Find your fire extinguisher and make sure the adults in your home know how to use it.

A few minutes of preparation could make all the difference.

The most dangerous thing in your home might be something you can't see, smell, or hear.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is often called the silent killer for a reason. It's a colorless, odorless gas that can become deadly without warning.

Tragically, families lose loved ones to carbon monoxide poisoning every year. Many of these deaths are preventable.

As home inspectors, we want every homeowner to take this seriously. A working CO alarm is one of the simplest ways to help protect the people you love.

๐Ÿ  Take 5 minutes TODAY to check your home:

โœ… Do you have CO alarms on every level of your home and outside sleeping areas?

โœ… Have you tested them recently?

โœ… Have you checked their expiration or replacement dates? CO alarms don't last forever!

โœ… Does everyone in your household know what to do if one sounds?

If your CO alarm sounds, don't ignore it or assume it's a false alarm. Get everyone outside into fresh air immediately and call 911.

We inspect homes every day, and we know how easy it is to overlook something you can't see.

Please don't put this one off.

Five minutes today could save a life.

Are There Ghosts in Your Attic?

At Sterling Inspection Group, we inspect attics all year longโ€ฆ but we only look for ghosts in October! ๐Ÿ‘€

Of course, the real spooky surprises are usually a little more *alive!* ๐Ÿฆ‡๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ

Bats, rats, mice, squirrels, and other uninvited guests have been known to go trick-or-treating in attics, and they're not looking for candy. They're looking for a warm place to call home!

๐Ÿ‚ **As temperatures drop, your attic becomes prime real estate for critters seeking shelter.**

That's why attic inspections are so important! Our inspectors look for:
๐Ÿš๏ธ Evidence of unwanted pests and entry points
๐Ÿ” Damaged or disturbed insulation
๐Ÿ’ง Moisture intrusion and ventilation concerns
๐Ÿ  Roof structure and other visible attic issues

A little prevention now can save you from some truly frightening surprises later!

**This Halloween, let the ghosts be pretend and keep the critters outside where they belong!** ๐Ÿ‘ป

How Fire-Safe Is Your Home?

Did you know that Washington State averaged approximately 5,100 residential structure fires each year?

That's a sobering reminder that house fires are a real risk, and many fire hazards can be reduced with simple prevention and regular home maintenance.

October is Fire Prevention Month, and at Sterling Inspection Group, we're encouraging homeowners to take a few simple steps to protect what matters most. โค๏ธ

Test your smoke alarms and replace batteries when needed.

Clean your dryer lint trap before every load and keep the exhaust vent clear.

Service your heating system and have fireplaces and chimneys inspected as recommended.

Your home is one of your biggest investments, but the people inside it are what matter most.

A safer home starts with awareness, prevention, and a little routine maintenance.

At Sterling Inspection Group, we're committed to helping homeowners protect their homes through education and proactive care.

Don't start a fire in your home.
Your dryer lint trap isn't the only place lint collects!

Even if you're great about cleaning the lint screen after every load, lint can still accumulate inside your dryer vent system.

Over time, that buildup can restrict airflow, increase drying times, and create a serious fire hazard.

**Here's your homeowner maintenance reminder:**

๐Ÿงบ Clean the lint screen before every load.

๐Ÿงบ Check the outside dryer vent flap for proper airflow and blockages.

๐Ÿงบ Inspect and clean your dryer exhaust duct at least once a year, or more often if needed.

๐Ÿงบ Pay attention! If clothes are taking longer to dry or your dryer feels unusually hot, it may be time for a vent cleaning.

**A clean dryer is a safer, more efficient dryer!**

We're sharing simple fire prevention tips all month long because protecting your home starts with knowing how to care for it.

LEGACY AGENT SPOTLIGHT - HEIDI HURST

Some partnerships go far beyond business, and Heidi is one of those people who has truly become part of our Sterling story.

Heidi is a woman who has forged her own path, raised two strong daughters, and walked through life's highs and lows with incredible strength and heart. Over the years, we've shared plenty of laughter, a few tears, and so many memories along the way.

What makes Heidi special is the way she loves people. She has a BIG heart, and she pours that into her clients, her friendships, and her business relationships. She's fun, she's genuine, and she truly wants the very best for the people she serves.

Through thick and thin, Heidi has been there for us, and that kind of loyalty means more than words can express.

And can you believe it? 240 home inspections together! ๐Ÿก๐ŸŽ‰

Heidi, you're one of the best in the business, and we couldn't be happier to have partnered with you all these years.
