Maintenance Monday 🔧✨ Smoke Detector Battery Check
Quick home safety win for your Monday: take 5 minutes to check/change your smoke detector batteries. Future-you will thank you. 👇
How to change a smoke-detector battery:
1️⃣ Find your alarm type
Look for a battery door, slide-out drawer, or a unit that twists off.
2️⃣ Open/remove the alarm
Most ceiling units twist counterclockwise to pop off the base.
3️⃣ Swap the battery
Usually 9V or AA. Match the + / − symbols.
4️⃣ Close it up + re-mount
Make sure the door clicks fully shut.
5️⃣ TEST it
Hold the TEST button until it beeps loudly.
If it still chirps after a new battery:
✅ Hold TEST for 15–20 sec to reset
✅ Recheck battery orientation
✅ Vacuum dust from vents
✅ If it’s 8–10 yrs old, it may be end-of-life → reach out to us to replace the unit
Pro tip: Some alarms are sealed 10-year batteries. If those chirp, you replace the whole detector, not the battery.
