I recently had a call from a customer asking if I thought a rental was legitimate. It was a scam. This customer was smart in contacting a professional to find out the truth after driving by the property and thinking what a bargain the rent was for the caliber of house. The scam works this way: A person who does not own the house, sees it online that it is for sale or for lease, then advertises it for lease masquerading as the owner. That person proceeds to give you a monthly rental price, generally a lower price than what it should lease for and tells you to send a deposit to hold the lease. These scammers are generally out of state and this guy in particular was in New Jersey. I called him and he stated that he likes to text instead of talking on the phone because he was at work. I reported this scam to the Illinois Trade Commission. If it looks too good to be true, it probably isn't. Always double check before you send anyone money. Scams are on the rise!🤔
