Welcome to another edition of Focus On Finance with TW Shortt, produced by HCEC-TV and released June 1, 2026.

Today, we bring you the story of a local entrepreneur who is building one of Hardin County's most successful and rapidly growing business service companies. My guest is Justin Fernandez, owner of Horizon Pack and Ship, with locations serving both Radcliff and Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

With more than 317 five-star customer reviews, Horizon Pack and Ship has earned a reputation for outstanding service throughout the Fort Knox and Hardin County area.

In this episode, Justin shares his entrepreneurial journey, the challenges and rewards of building a business, the importance of putting customers first, and his plans for future growth. Nationwide Canvas Cyberattack Disrupts Colleges and Schools Across America

A major cybersecurity incident involving the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) has caused widespread disruption for colleges, universities, and school systems across the United States and internationally.

Canvas, operated by Instructure, is one of the largest online education platforms in the world and is used daily by millions of students and educators for assignments, testing, messaging, and classroom instruction.

Reports emerging this week indicate that a hacker group known as “ShinyHunters” claims responsibility for the attack and is allegedly demanding ransom payments while threatening to release massive amounts of student and institutional data.

Schools in multiple states have reported:
• Inability to log into Canvas
• Interrupted online classes and testing
• Assignment submission failures
• Messaging and communication outages
• Delays during final exams and coursework

Universities across the nation have issued alerts to students and faculty advising them to document outages, save coursework locally, and remain cautious of phishing attempts or suspicious emails.

While no official confirmation has been released regarding the extent of exposure for individual institutions, the incident is being described by national media as one of the most significant cyberattacks ever directed at the education sector.

Eastern Kentucky University, along with many other colleges utilizing Canvas, may experience intermittent service disruptions connected to the broader outage.

Students are encouraged to:
• Take screenshots of any system errors
• Notify instructors immediately if assignments or exams are affected
• Avoid clicking suspicious emails or links
• Change passwords if the same password is used on multiple systems

The situation remains fluid as cybersecurity teams and educational institutions continue working to restore services and determine the full scope of the incident.

RADCLIFF (SCHOOL) BUS STOP SHOOTING CASE MOVES FORWARD

Two young men, Kash Johnson (19) of Bowling Green and Kaden Ruff (19) of Radcliff, appeared in Hardin Circuit Court this week on attempted murder charges connected to the February 2025 shooting at a Radcliff (school) bus stop.

The case was delayed due to a crowded court schedule, but trial is now expected to begin in August. According to police, surveillance video allegedly shows Johnson and Ruff approaching the victim from separate directions and firing 23 rounds from two different weapons. The victim was struck but survived.

Johnson faces multiple charges including attempted murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. Ruff also faces attempted murder and other felony charges. Johnson remains jailed on a $250,000 cash bond.

⚠️ Now the hard question: Are citizens really expected to believe there is no gang problem in the North End of Hardin County when cases like this keep surfacing?

📊 When will the Chief of Police present real crime statistics to Radcliff City Council instead of endless policy updates and feel-good presentations?

❓ And when will even one council member ask the hard questions residents deserve answered?

This is not just a real estate issue—it’s a leadership issue.

Anyone running for local office in Hardin County or surrounding communities should take the time to study this research and understand the implications. These aging parks are not going away on their own. The choices made now will determine whether they become centers of decline or models of smart redevelopment.

Voters should expect candidates to have informed positions on:

Redevelopment strategy
Infrastructure planning
Affordable housing preservation
Use of tools like PUD zoning
