🌴☀️ There are certain places that, for just a little while, can make you forget exactly where you are.
It was one of those hot, muggy Southern afternoons when I finally made my way to Brew Da Bean in Christiansburg. 🇺🇸⚜️
I’d been hearing about this place for a while. Someone knew about my love of New Orleans food and said, “You HAVE to go to Brew Da Bean.”
So I finally listened. 😂
And the minute I stepped onto their outdoor Porch, I understood.
🌿 Plants everywhere
🎷 Jazz playing softly
🌴 Beautiful wood ceiling
🌀 Ceiling fans slowly moving that warm Southern air
🪑 Wrought-iron seating
It felt wonderfully, authentically New Orleans — the kind of place where you sit outside with a cold drink and let the world slow down for a while.
Inside is beautiful too, with a gorgeous pressed-tin-style ceiling, but on this hot, muggy afternoon, I wanted that Porch. ❤️
Then I saw the neon sign:
🔥 HOT BEIGNETS 🔥
Well… now we're talking.
Brew Da Bean has a genuine New Orleans connection. Owner Eddie Roberts is from New Orleans, and his family owned a restaurant there for decades, with family recipes helping inspire the menu. ⚜️
I started with three beignets. 🤤☁️
And Lord have mercy.
I haven’t had a beignet since my last trip to New Orleans in December, and that first bite took me straight back. Hot, pillowy, covered in powdered sugar and absolutely worth making a mess over. 😂🤍
Of course, beignets require coffee. That's Louisiana law.
Their NOLA coffee was extraordinary. ☕⚜️
Then came the fried shrimp po’boy with Cajun fries. 🍤🥖🔥
And I’m just going to say it:
Those Cajun fries may be my favorite fries in the entire New River Valley right now. 🍟🔥
Sitting there with my iced coffee, beignets and jazz drifting through the air, I felt like I’d escaped to New Orleans for an hour.
And I’m already planning my return.
🍲 Crawfish Corn Bisque
🍛 Jambalaya
🫘 Red Beans & Rice
🍞 Bread Pudding
…and definitely more beignets!
Brew Da Bean, I finally made it.
And I am officially smitten. ❤️⚜️☕🌴

🥒🔥 THE WEST VIRGINIA PICKLE GUY — I WAS NOT PREPARED FOR THIS. 🔥🥒
Every once in a while, you meet a local vendor who reminds you why homemade food and people who genuinely love what they do are so damn special. ❤️
I am SO grateful I finally got to find The West Virginia Pickle Guy and try these pickles. And when I say I sampled EVERY ONE… I mean it. 😂🥒
There are so many varieties I didn't even get pictures of everything, but I tried them all — and WOW.
🥃🔥 Spicy Brown Sugar Bourbon — absolutely INSANE. Sweet, spicy, rich and ridiculously good.
🌶️🔥 Slap Your Mama — their most popular flavor, and I completely understand why. That Cajun kick hits you right where it should.
🥒❤️ Bread & Butter — this one took me straight back in time. It tastes like the homemade pickles your grandma used to make. Sweet, tangy, crisp and incredibly fresh. Pure nostalgia in a jar. ❤️
🥓🌿 Bacon Ranch — because apparently pickles weren't already addictive enough. 😂
🍅🍹 Bloody Mary — beautifully seasoned and packed with flavor.
🧄🔥 And of course the Garlic and Spicy Garlic — both absolutely fantastic.
But then came the pickle I was convinced was a joke…
🍒🥒 CHERRY KOOL-AID PICKLES.
I almost didn't try them. 😂 I had ZERO intention of buying them.
Then I tasted one.
WHAT THE HELL?! 🤯😂
It actually WORKS. Somehow it's like a dessert pickle — sweet, fruity, tangy and completely addictive. I don't understand it, but I absolutely love them. 🍒🥒❤️
These pickles are incredibly fresh, creative and delicious, and the people behind them are just as wonderful. They do pop-ups here in Southwest Virginia even though they're from West Virginia, and I know they'll be at Valley View Mall in Roanoke.
You don't have to be pickle-crazy to enjoy these. If you like good homemade food, give them a shot.
They'll keep for about 6 months in your refrigerator — although good luck making them last that long. 😂
🥒🔥 I can't recommend The West Virginia Pickle Guy enough!
Go support a great local vendor and grab yourself a jar… or five. 😋

🎉❤️ RADFORD COMMUNITY FESTIVAL! ❤️🎉
What an incredible day on Main Street! 🌟 There is just something SPECIAL about the Radford community, and this festival was the perfect reminder of why I love being part of it! 🏡❤️
So many amazing vendors, great food, incredible music, awesome bands, free Radford merch, and SO many wonderful people! 🎶🍔🎨🎁
🥃 JH BARD’S SPIRIT CO. was definitely a highlight! Their Old Fashioned with that insanely smooth Rye Wh***ey, blackstrap molasses & homemade bitters was 🔥🔥🔥! Their whiskeys are absolutely incredible!
🇯🇲 And of course, Countryman Jamaican Grill brought some of the BEST oxtails you will ever have! 🤤🔥 They SOLD OUT — and honestly, that says it all! 👏🏾
🍺 Long Way Brewing was there too — and you already know I had to stop by! 😍🍻 Best b**r in the New River Valley, in my humble opinion!
🐰🎃 From incredible rabbit rescues to Halloween decorations, there was something fun around every corner!
🗳️ I also had some fantastic conversations with several people running for our school board. It was great meeting people who genuinely care about Radford, our schools, and our students. ❤️📚
❤️ And of course, BTS was there — one of my favorites!
This festival had EVERYTHING: great food 🍴, great drinks 🍻, great music 🎶, amazing vendors 🛍️, and most importantly, GREAT PEOPLE! ❤️
I was so happy to be a part of it and to get to talk with so many wonderful people throughout the day. 🙌
The Radford Community Festival is definitely an event I look forward to every year! 🎉❤️
Radford, you were AMAZING! 🏡❤️💙

🍎🍩 C***R DONUT ALERT!!! 🍩🍎
If you know, you KNOW… Mama Crockett’s C***r Donuts are back in the New River Valley! 🙌🔥
They’re set up in the Lowe’s parking lot in Christiansburg, and I had to stop because these things are LEGENDARY around Southwest Virginia. 😍🍩
And there’s a reason for that. Mama Crockett’s started as a small mobile operation and grew into a Southwest Virginia institution, eventually running multiple donut trailers and even a brick-and-mortar location in Lynchburg. The business became famous for making the donuts fresh right there on the trailer, using local apple c***r mixed directly into the batter. 🍎➡️🍩
After closing the Lynchburg shop and their trucks in 2022, owner F.W. Willis eventually brought Mama Crockett’s back — and apparently Southwest Virginia wasn't about to let this one stay gone! 😂❤️
And YES… they are exactly what you remember. 🤤
🔥 HOT ☁️ FLUFFY 🍎 C***R-Y 🍬 ROLLED IN CINNAMON SUGAR …and absolutely freaking delicious!!! 🤤🤤🤤
There is something about getting a c***r donut while it's still warm, with that cinnamon-sugar coating melting into the outside. It's simple food, but when it's done right, it doesn't need anything else. 👏
So if you're anywhere around the New River Valley, get yourself to the Lowe’s parking lot in Christiansburg and find Mama Crockett’s! 🍎🍩🔥
Because some local legends deserve to be supported — and this is definitely one of them. ❤️🙌

🌮🤩 I absolutely LOVE it when people stop me and tell me they've discovered an amazing local restaurant because of my posts! ❤️ It honestly makes my day. If there's one thing I love talking about almost as much as real estate... it's FOOD!! 🍽️😂 (Okay... maybe Buc-ee's gets tied for first! 🤣🦫)
A few weeks ago, a fellow foodie pulled me aside and said, "Roman, you've GOT to check out this hidden gem!" Well... you know I wasn't going to wait long! 😁
📍 Homesa Restaurant (right next to the little Latin grocery store by Dunkin' in Fairlawn) absolutely delivered! 🙌🔥
What makes them so unique is they serve 🇭🇳 Honduran, 🇲🇽 Mexican, and 🇸🇻 Salvadoran cuisine all under one roof! 🌎❤️
For my first visit, I kept it simple: 🥩 Carne Asada Platter 🫓 Cheese & Bean Pupusa & Cheese Pupusa
Every single bite was delicious! 🤤💯 The portions were HUGE for the price 💲🙌, the staff was incredibly friendly 😊, and everything tasted fresh and authentic.
The best part? They have menu items I haven't seen since I was in Miami! 😍🌴 That's when you know you've found something special.
I already can't wait to go back and dive into more of their Honduran specialties! 🇭🇳🍴
I'm always excited to support amazing local businesses, and this is another hidden gem I'm thrilled to add to my list. ❤️
👉 Have YOU eaten at Homesa Restaurant yet? What's your favorite thing on the menu? And if you know another hidden gem I need to visit, drop it in the comments! I LOVE discovering new places! 😋👇

🔥🐖 Y'all... I have found the best barbecue this side of North Carolina. 🐖🔥
Some meals fill your stomach. Others remind you why barbecue is considered an art. Mama Jean's BBQ in Roanoke is the latter. 🤤❤️
What started as a beautifully restored 1956 Airstream food truck with people lining up and selling out day after day has become a gorgeous brick-and-mortar restaurant—and trust me, every bit of the hype is earned. Owner and pitmaster Madison Ruckel brought years of barbecue experience to Roanoke, named the restaurant after his mother, Mama Jean, and built something truly special through nothing but smoke, fire, patience, and passion. 🔥🚚➡️🏡 They've even been recognized by Southern Living as one of the South's best new barbecue joints.
The restaurant is absolutely charming with a cozy patio, a nice little bar, and an atmosphere that just feels like home. ❤️🍻
Now let's talk about the food... 🤯
I ordered the brisket 🥩, ribs 🍖, and mac & cheese 🧀. Sadly they had already sold out of the collard greens—and it wasn't even that late! That's usually a sign you're in the right place. 😅
That mac & cheese? Pure comfort. Rich... creamy... unbelievably flavorful... and for just $4 it was a seriously generous portion. 💛🧀
I'm usually a brisket guy, and this brisket absolutely delivered. Beautiful bark, juicy, smoky, tender, and packed with flavor. 👏🔥
But those ribs... WOW. 🤯🍖
Forget drowning them in sauce. They don't need a single drop. I tried every sauce because, well... research. 😂 Every one was delicious, but the meat stood proudly on its own.
The smoke kissed every bite. The seasoning penetrated all the way through. The rub created a perfect crust. And here's something every true barbecue lover knows...
🚨 Perfect barbecue ribs are NOT supposed to fall off the bone. 🚨
If they do, they're actually overcooked.
The gold standard is when the meat gives you that perfect little tug before coming clean off the bone. That's exactly what these ribs did. Tender without turning to mush. Smoky without being overpowering. Balanced. Honest. Barbecue the way it's meant to be. 🙌🔥🍖
This wasn't just lunch... it was craftsmanship served on butcher paper.
Yes, it's busy. Yes, there will probably be a line. Yes, they sell out.
And after one bite... you'll understand exactly why.
I honestly don't have to drive to North Carolina anymore to get world-class barbecue. Roanoke has it right here, and Mama Jean's has raised the bar for everyone else. 👏🔥❤️
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly, HIGHLY recommended!
🍖 😍 🏔️ ❤️ 🔥

🚨 NEW BUSINESS ALERT 🚨
If you've ever complimented my hair, chances are you were really complimenting Tabitha's work.
Anyone who knows me knows I'm incredibly particular about my hair. A good haircut matters, and after trying multiple barbers and stylists throughout the New River Valley over the years, I can honestly say that Tabitha is the best I've found. In fact, I've followed her throughout her career because when you find someone this talented, you don't let them go.
For years, she has been the only person I trust with my fades, hard parts, and overall style. Every single cut is consistent, detailed, and exactly what I asked for. I never leave disappointed.
What impresses me even more is that her talent isn't limited to barbering. She does an incredible job with women's hair as well. Whether you're looking for a sharp fade, a fresh style, a trim, or a complete transformation, she has a level of skill and attention to detail that's hard to find.
But beyond being exceptionally talented, she's also one of the kindest and most genuine people you'll ever meet. I genuinely look forward to my appointments because I know my hair is going to look amazing, and I get to spend time with someone who makes every visit enjoyable.
I'm so excited to see Tabitha and Olivia open the doors to their new business, Average Joe's Barber Shop.
📍 11 N Franklin St. Christiansburg, VA 24073
The shop has an incredible atmosphere, they welcome walk-ins, and they've created a space that feels welcoming the moment you walk through the door.
If you're tired of bouncing from barber to barber, if you're picky about who touches your hair, or if you simply want to look your absolute best, I cannot recommend this place enough.
Congratulations to Tabitha, Olivia, and the entire team at Average Joe's. Wishing you all the success in the world—you've earned it. 💈✂️❤️ :::

☀️🍔🍦 It's feeling more like summer every day, and that definitely means a visit to Gardner's Grill and Gardner's Frozen Treats! 😎🌞
This local favorite has been serving up incredible food since 2007, but I only discovered it a couple of years ago—and I'm so glad I did! ❤️ One of the things I love most about Gardner's is that the chef is always putting together creative and delicious flavor combinations that somehow just work perfectly. Every visit gives me something new to look forward to! 👨‍🍳🔥
This time, I ordered the Appalachian Smash Burger 🍔🤤 and WOW... what an absolute flavor bomb! 💥 It's topped with their homemade 🍅🥓 tomato bacon jam and melted 🧀 pimento cheese, creating layer after layer of incredible flavor. You can get it as a single, double, or triple, but I went with the double because I came hungry! 💪🍔🍔
And yes... I posted plenty of pictures of the inside of the burger! 📸🍔 Make sure you swipe through them so you can see all those amazing layers and everything that's going on inside. Sometimes a burger looks good from the outside, but this one is just as impressive once you cut into it! 😍🤤
Instead of fries, I decided to try the onion petals 🧅✨ and they were fantastic. They come with Gardner's famous Paddle Sauce, and I highly recommend adding them to your order! 🙌🔥
After finishing up at Gardner's Grill, it was only a short walk over to Gardner's Frozen Treats 🚶‍♂️➡️🍦 for dessert. I tried their homemade Blueberry Lavender ice cream 🫐💜🍨 and it absolutely exceeded my expectations. The blueberry and lavender balanced each other perfectly, making for a refreshing and unique flavor that was perfect on a warm evening. 🌅🍦
Next on my must-try list is the Mountain Man! 🏔️🐔 Sweet tea-brined, hand-breaded chicken topped with homemade bacon jam and balsamic aioli. Seriously... how good does that sound?! 🤤🔥
Gardner's continues to be one of my favorite local spots. Great food, creative flavors, amazing homemade ice cream, and a team that's always delivering something special. I can't wait to go back and keep working my way through both the menu and the ice cream flavors! ❤️🍔🍦 Gardner's Frozen Treats & Gardner’s Grill

🍜 Just had one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time at the brand new Fujiya Ramen right here in Radford — and it was absolutely worth the wait.
I’ve been watching for their opening for months. On Sunday I saw a post that they were open and I literally ran out the door and went straight there. From the moment you walk in, the place feels special — clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed with warm lighting and beautiful details. It already feels like a little hidden gem in our town.
I started with an ice-cold Ramune Lychee soda — that classic Japanese marble bottle with the crisp, sweet-tart lychee flavor that pops and fizzes perfectly. Such a refreshing way to begin.
For appetizers, I went with the takoyaki — golden, crispy-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside octopus balls filled with minced octopus. They were beautifully presented with a trio of sauces (the takoyaki sauce, Japanese mayo, and bonito flakes dancing on top). Absolute perfection in every bite.
Then came the star of the show: the Shoyu Ramen. Rich, deeply flavorful pork broth that you can tell was simmered with care for hours. Tender slices of pork belly chashu that practically melted, perfectly cooked soft-boiled eggs (I added an extra one because I can’t resist them — the runny yolk mixing into that broth is heavenly), bamboo shoots, fresh scallions, and earthy kikurage mushrooms. Every element was in harmony. I also ordered two tempura shrimp on the side — light, crispy, and fantastic dipped in the ramen broth or their delicious sauce.
I finished with a strawberry mochi — chewy, lightly sweet, with bright strawberry flavor. Just lovely.
The staff was genuinely warm and attentive from start to finish. You can feel the pride they have in what they’re doing. Prices are very reasonable too, especially for the quality.
Radford is incredibly lucky to have a real ramen spot like this. Places that put this much heart and craftsmanship into their food deserve our support.
If you love ramen, Japanese food, or just discovering great new local spots — go see them. You won’t regret it. I already can’t wait to go back and work my way through the rest of the menu.
Fujiya Ramen — welcome to Radford. We’re grateful you’re here. ❤️
