🍜 Just had one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time at the brand new Fujiya Ramen right here in Radford — and it was absolutely worth the wait.
I’ve been watching for their opening for months. On Sunday I saw a post that they were open and I literally ran out the door and went straight there. From the moment you walk in, the place feels special — clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed with warm lighting and beautiful details. It already feels like a little hidden gem in our town.
I started with an ice-cold Ramune Lychee soda — that classic Japanese marble bottle with the crisp, sweet-tart lychee flavor that pops and fizzes perfectly. Such a refreshing way to begin.
For appetizers, I went with the takoyaki — golden, crispy-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside octopus balls filled with minced octopus. They were beautifully presented with a trio of sauces (the takoyaki sauce, Japanese mayo, and bonito flakes dancing on top). Absolute perfection in every bite.
Then came the star of the show: the Shoyu Ramen. Rich, deeply flavorful pork broth that you can tell was simmered with care for hours. Tender slices of pork belly chashu that practically melted, perfectly cooked soft-boiled eggs (I added an extra one because I can’t resist them — the runny yolk mixing into that broth is heavenly), bamboo shoots, fresh scallions, and earthy kikurage mushrooms. Every element was in harmony. I also ordered two tempura shrimp on the side — light, crispy, and fantastic dipped in the ramen broth or their delicious sauce.
I finished with a strawberry mochi — chewy, lightly sweet, with bright strawberry flavor. Just lovely.
The staff was genuinely warm and attentive from start to finish. You can feel the pride they have in what they’re doing. Prices are very reasonable too, especially for the quality.
Radford is incredibly lucky to have a real ramen spot like this. Places that put this much heart and craftsmanship into their food deserve our support.
If you love ramen, Japanese food, or just discovering great new local spots — go see them. You won’t regret it. I already can’t wait to go back and work my way through the rest of the menu.
Fujiya Ramen — welcome to Radford. We’re grateful you’re here. ❤️
