I just finished the book I was reading which inspired the start of my daily meditation practice. The book is 10% Happier by Dan Harris if you’re interested! He recaps at the end with the top three reasons people decide to not try meditating:
1. It’s BS.
2. It’s too hard for me.
3. I do t have the time.

Which one(s) do you fall under?!

This quote (and the picture) stood out to me as I tried to plan this post. Meditation is not to clear your mind. In fact, it’s actually the exercise to reel you back in once your mind does wonder. Your mind is meant to wonder. It’s why it’s called “a practice” - just like lifting weights or training for a marathon. It takes practice and is never perfected. It’s ok to feel what you’re feeling.

The other reason this image jumped out was because of how the girl is sitting. LOL. You don’t have to sit in a pretzel with your hands out! BUT if that’s how you choose to do it, the. Go for it. Meditation is about YOU. Dan Harris says, “The act of simply feeling the breath breaks the habits of a lifetime.”

A little fun fact about me - I love Harry Potter 🧙‍♀️

Whether you love Albus Dumbledore or not, his way worth words always make me think a little more. This quote is so in line with my meditation journey as well as being a great motivation for my career and personal goals. As an over thinker, I find myself dreaming of what could have been or what could happen in the future and find myself losing that precious time in the moment.

Hi! 👋🏼 I’m Brianne and I’m an over thinker. Are you like me and your mind is constantly replaying scenarios, or thinking of what’s next on your to do list, or imagining a future scenario?

Recently, I started the daily practice of meditation through the Calm app and I’d like to use my social media platforms to share the quotes I’m hearing and the learnings I’m experiencing. The first thing I’ve learned is that it is totally normal to have your mind wander while practicing meditation. The strength and growth actually comes from acknowledging that your mind has drifted and bringing it back to the practice. I always thought, “I’m not good at meditation. I think too much,” but that’s why it’s called a practice. It’s helping guide you back to a place of mindfulness when your mind can’t seem to settle.
