"All in the Timing" by David Ives is a collection of one act plays that are generally presented together to create a full-length evening of fun and witty theatrical productions. Winner of the John Gassner Playwriting Award, this critically acclaimed, award-winning evening of comedies combines wit, intellect, satire and just plain fun. "Like sketches for some hilarious, celestially conceived r***e. The writing is not only very funny, it has density of thought and precision of poetry…ALL IN THE TIMING is by a master of fun. David Ives spins hilarity out of words." —NY Times.

Tickets are ONLY $8 (Seniors and Students $5). Tickets can be purchased at the Cultural Center or via http://www.etix.com

Overview (from Dramatist Play Service): Winner of the John Gassner Playwriting Award. This critically acclaimed, award-winning evening of comedies combines wit, intellect, satire and just plain fun. "Like sketches for some hilarious, celestially conceived r***e. The writing is not only very funny, it has density of thought and precision of poetry…ALL IN THE TIMING is by a master of fun. David Ives spins hilarity out of words." —NY Times. "Theatre that aerobicizes the brain and tickles the heart. Ives is a mordant comic who has put the play back in playwright…A wondrous wordmaster." —Time Magazine. "An original turn of mind is to be saluted in our tired theatre…A playwright with ideas, his own ideas, in his head is relatively rare. Such a one is David Ives." —NY Magazine.

The one acts brief synopsis (also from Dramatist Play Service: SURE THING is a classic of contemporary comedy: Two people meet in a cafe and find their way through a conversational minefield as an offstage bell interrupts their false starts, gaffes, and faux pas on the way to falling in love. (1 man, 1 woman.) WORDS, WORDS, WORDS recalls the philosophical adage that three monkeys typing into infinity will sooner or later produce HAMLET and asks: What would monkeys talk about at their typewriters? (2 men, 1 woman.) THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE brings together Dawn, a young woman with a stutter, and Don, the creator and teacher of Unamunda, a wild comic language. Their lesson sends them off into a dazzling display of hysterical verbal pyrotechnics—and, of course, true love. (2 men, 1 woman.) PHILIP GLASS BUYS A LOAF OF BREAD is a parodic musical vignette in trademark Glassian style, with the celebrated composer having a moment of existential crisis in a bakery. THE PHILADELPHIA presents a young man in a restaurant who has fallen into "a Philadelphia," a Twilight Zone-like state in which he cannot get anything he asks for. His only way out of the dilemma? To ask for the opposite of what he wants. (2 men, 1 woman.) VARIATIONS ON THE DEATH OF TROTSKY shows us the Russian revolutionary on the day of his demise, desperately trying to cope with the mountain-climber's axe he's discovered in his head. (2 men, 1 woman.)

Jane's Walk Raleigh is coming the first weekend in May. I was the City Organizer for last year's first event and have brought on a Co-Organizer this year. We are currently recruiting Walk Leaders. Some common questions:
1-Who can be a Walk Leader?
Anybody who wants to lead a walk that they design and signs up to do so. No training needed! I've seen Walk Leaders range in age 8-80.
2-What about Apex, Holly Springs, etc.?
Any surrounding city can also do walks under the Jane's Walk Raleigh banner. If you get 5 or more walks going, I will work to get you your own Jane's Walk City-ship.
3-How can I learn more?
Message me. Go to janeswalk.org or the Jane's Walk Raleigh site at http://janeswalk.org/united-states/raleigh-nc/.

be happy!

While this guy is driving down the highway, he is blaring 'Build me up Buttercup' from his stereo. The passing cars can hear and they have something to say about it.

FINAL WEEKEND!
Stars Theater in Fuquay presents:
Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling
123 East Vance Street, Fuquay Varina 919-557-8271
Directed by Dan Barth
Performance Dates: Fri Feb 27 7pm, Sat Feb 28 2pm, Sat Feb 28 7pm. Tickets just $10!
Performed by Stars Community Theater; The action is set in Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle (who is not sure whether or not she is still married), the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser, (“I’m not crazy, I’ve just been in a bad mood for forty years”); an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby (the prettiest girl in town), is about to marry a “good ole boy.” Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions, the play moves toward tragedy when, in the second act, the spunky Shelby (who is a diabetic) risks pregnancy and forfeits her life. The sudden realization of their mortality affects the others, but also draws on the underlying strength—and love—which give the play, and its characters, the special quality to make them truly touching, funny and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad.
