On Monday, the end of an Era took place as a father of five passed away. Algernon Finley Sr went down fighting cancer, a horrendous disease taking thousands of lives each year. Dad was a simple person who operated under the old code of ethics, "Do as I say!" What I do is none of your business he might say. He challenged everyone's opinion and their school of thought, usually reflecting that his opinion was right.
Underneath that hard exterior was a person who cared about his children being successful. He gave us the drive to become more than we were, taught us to ignore where we came from , and recover from the suffering we experienced when growing up. In time we never looked back. Whatever a Finley put their mind to created success. Every adversity made us work harder. The only problem was slowing down. It took me 50 years to smell the coffee. I encourage those who read this memorial to my dad as an opportunity to retire early and enjoy life to the fullest. My dad worked into his 70s because of poor planning and limited resources. This generation has far more benefits, connections, and resources than those before us - regardless of what you think. Be wise, listen to your parents and grandparents, grow through knowledge and your experiences. Lastly, don't be faint of heart about what is going on today. This things to will pass.
