It's official: Raleigh is getting an 11-screen, 36 beer tap Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Longview Shopping Center.
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is pleased to unveil plans to open its first location in North Carolina. Alamo Drafthouse Raleigh, an 11-screen theater, bar and restaurant, will feature 660 seats and a beer hall with 36 local beers on tap.
The site for the theater was originally identified by Raleigh’s own Skip Elsheimer, founder of the AV Geeks film archive. "I've been hosting screenings at the Austin Alamo Drafthouse for over a decade and it’s incredibly exciting that they’re coming to Raleigh,” said Skip. “No other theater has come close to how awesome and creative they are with their screenings. Alamo Drafthouse was created by film fans, for film fans and Alamo Drafthouse Raleigh will be no exception, as it will introduce theatergoers to new films, directors and genres that would never play in the Triangle."
Alamo Drafthouse Raleigh’s 11 screens will showcase the very best in new release, indie and foreign film, and the cinema’s unique classic film programming and special events. Theaters will be equipped with top-of-the-line digital 4K projection and dynamic surround sound. Alamo Drafthouse will also install changeover 35mm projection to accommodate both classic films and new, non-digital releases. In addition to superior presentation, auditoriums will be fully outfitted with luxury recliners ensuring every seat in the house offers a viewing experience of unparalleled comfort. The theater is expected to open by the end of 2017.
“It’s taken us over five years to find the ideal location for an Alamo Drafthouse in Raleigh, but we feel like we’ve found it at the Longview Shopping Center,” said Alamo Drafthouse founder and CEO Tim League. “We love Raleigh. We have family here and have spent a lot of time in North Carolina. That said, we’ve been troubled by the implications of House Bill 2 and the attempts to limit rights of the LGBTQ community in North Carolina. Rather than walking away from this community, however, we are committing our support and making our stance very clear. We support the unconditional repeal of HB2 and have designed our restroom facilities to be adaptable to a future without binary constraints. We will also actively support LGBTQ programming, events and fundraisers at the theater. We’re excited to break ground and look forward to being a contributing member of the Raleigh community.”

Alamo Drafthouse delivers the best film, food and drink all in one seat and has been heralded for unique programming events and high exhibition standards, earning accolades including “Best Theater Ever” (Time Magazine) and “The Coolest Theater in the World” (Wired). The Alamo provides a unique combination of theater and restaurant, showing first-run movies, independent films and special events with an extensive menu made from scratch. Guests order all food and drinks from servers who quietly attend to them throughout the movie. Patrons are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy the pre-show entertainment. Instead of a barrage of advertising, the Alamo Drafthouse shows a curated collection of rare and humorous clips themed to each feature.
Additionally, Alamo Drafthouse protects the theatrical experience with a zero tolerance policy for people who disrupt the film with talking or texting. Alamo Drafthouse was featured on global news for a viral “Don’t Talk” PSA featuring a bizarre voice recording from an actual disgruntled patron who was ejected for texting. Alamo Drafthouse Raleigh is now hiring for the key Creative Manager position who will oversee the programming, events and promotion for the theater. They are also now hiring a seasoned restaurant General Manager. Alamo Drafthouse will soon be posting jobs for Chef, Bar Manager, projectionist and other managerial positions.
