The talk on the town the past few weeks is the 50-year mortgage. Because of higher home prices and mortgage rates, affordability continues to be a barrier to homeownership, and a lower monthly payment can help more families qualify for a mortgage. A longer mortgage (50 year vs. 30 or 15 year) will always lower monthly payments, but you will pay more because of more time making payments and slower equity growth. It might be beneficial for your situation, but balance the pros and cons with a seasoned professional who can guide you on what’s best for your particular situation.
