A Love for Country, But Not Its People? 🇺🇸💔

Before his passing, John McCain reminded us to love our country. I agree with him completely.

But here’s the truth: what is a country without its people? It’s just empty land.

Yesterday, Charlie Kirk—31, a husband and father—was shot and killed while speaking at a campus event. His family, his friends, and those who admired him are facing fresh wounds and deep grief. My heart breaks for them. 💔

This pain is not new.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was taken from us while still a young man, his dream unfulfilled but powerful enough to change the course of a nation.

Fred Hampton—only 21—was shot and killed in his sleep during a police raid. A father with a child on the way…a child he never met, a child that bears his name. He and his fiancée, Deborah Johnson, never even had the chance to celebrate their love in a wedding ceremony.

Fred once said:
“I live for the people, because I love the people.” ✊🏾

Different perspectives. Different lives. The same cycle, repeated. Violence. Hatred. Families robbed of countless precious moments.

Yes, love this country.
But also love your fellow Americans—enough to accept their right to live long lives.

Because without its people, America is just empty land. 🌎

If we could merge McCain’s call to love your country with Hampton’s conviction to live for the people because I love the people—that would be the beginning of the world we want…not just for ourselves, but for our children and our children’s children.

When the Rubber Meets the Road…
We all have an idea of who we are—or who we want to be.
We talk about our values, our boundaries, our beliefs. And when life is peaceful, it’s easy to feel aligned with those things. But the truth is, we don’t meet our true selves in the quiet.
We meet ourselves when the rubber meets the road.
That moment when pressure hits.
When you’re triggered, disappointed, or tested.
When it’s no longer about what you say you believe—but how you actually move.
Recently, I shared about the kind of “no matter what” bond that holds steady even when things get uncomfortable. Those deep, tested human connections—through conflict, loss, miscommunication, and healing. We might have them with a spouse, a child, a sibling, or a lifelong friend.
But those relationships, just like our values, are revealed and refined in real-life tension.
And when you’re in one of those rubber-meets-the-road moments, here’s a path forward:
✨ Pause.
✨ Ask yourself: What’s my actual goal here?
✨ Then ask: What’s the most honest, respectful, and effective way to move toward it?
Let that question guide your response.
Because in those moments, we have a choice: we can react from emotion, or respond from maturity. We can protect our pride, or preserve the connection. We can shut down, or step up.
It’s not about being perfect.
It’s about showing up on purpose.
Always reaching for the mature you to be the you that shows up—especially when the rubber meets the road. REMEMBER TO ✨ MOVE IN LOVE FIRST 😘

The difference between criticism and critique: Criticism, is the act of pointing out faults or shortcomings. Critique, is a detailed analysis or assessment of something. While they can sometimes be used interchangeably a critique is more likely to be effective. A critique feels helpful if worded respectfully. It can help build a person up. While criticism, can feel like an attack. It’s all in the verbiage. A critique should be offered as nonjudgmental observation used to help someone to see where there could be an opportunity for growth. Like I said above, It’s all in the verbiage. So be mindful and offer constructive critiques and not judgmental criticism. Remember to ✨move in love first😘

A no matter what bond: We have to have a no matter what bond with our heavenly father. The bond that Jesus modeled with the Heavenly Father. We have to grow in obedience and have faith along with the courage, wisdom, and maturity. If we ask in Jesus’s name, and trust that he hears us, we will build that (no matter what bond). Our Creator and heavenly father knows us individually, and intricately. He is the creator of us all as well as this grand design we call life on earth. There is no way he wouldn’t know what’s best for us. He, is a good father and the ultimate creator! He has all of the cheat codes/hacks to life, and because he loves us he will with hold no good thing from us. It is his will to do what is best for us. We have to exercise our faith and trust in him to win. Take time in this life and every moment possible, to grow and nourish a no matter what bond so you can live and enjoy the full life he put you here to have. Remember it won’t always feel good but you’ll be and live a more complete life. It will always be for his glory and you’ll get to live that fulfilled life. In Christ, there is nothing lost and nothing lacking.
