🌳 On May 4, Redlands announced $1 million in federal community project funding for Texonia Park modernization renovations, supporting upgrades aimed at improving safety, accessibility and outdoor recreation.

The project will bring a new off-street parking lot, an all-inclusive playground, restroom facilities, park lighting, walking paths, sports fields, an updated picnic area and group reservation spaces.

Rep. Pete Aguilar secured the funding, while Redlands Mayor Mario Saucedo said the inclusive playground will create a space where children of all abilities, including those with physical, sensory or intellectual disabilities, can play and connect.

🛣️ A $25.6 million overhaul of the University Parkway/I-215 interchange was formally dedicated May 1 at Cal State San Bernardino, marking the completion of Southern California’s first diverging diamond interchange.

The project, led by SBCTA, Caltrans District 8 and the city of San Bernardino, reconfigured traffic flow near CSUSB to create more efficient freeway access without widening the roadway, with $16.4 million funded through Measure I.

Tim Watkins, SBCTA’s chief of legislative and public affairs, said the design temporarily shifts traffic to the opposite side of the road to allow freer left turns onto freeway ramps and move more cars through the interchange faster.

CSUSB students said the improvement is already making a noticeable difference along a corridor long known for congestion near campus and surrounding businesses.
