Heaven gained an incredible woman on Thursday night, but my family is left with a very, very big hole in our hearts. After 10+ long months of fighting pancreatic cancer, I watched my beautiful mom take her last breath. It was surreal, and still is. That cancer is an awful disease…and it ends in a brutal way. However, her and my faith gives us immeasurable hope. I know she is no longer in pain and that she has been ushered into the presence of Jesus. But the grief is real. My mom is an amazing person. She is one of the most generous and selfless people I know. Her smile and positive attitude carried her thru every day. When her pain was unbearable and when the emotions were too much, she still managed to smile. Each time I entered the room her face lit up and she greeted me with her beautiful smile. She hugged me and loved me as if her pain didn’t exist. She has always been most concerned with others and not herself. She impacted all the lives she encountered from the doctors to the nurses….such an inspiration. My heart grieves. She seemed to have so much more life left to live. More memories to make, more jokes to tell, more lives to change….but God had different plans. I wasn’t ready to let my mom go. I’m still not completely ready I guess, but I have no choice..and I trust God, even when I don’t understand. To those of you that had reached out throughout the year…thank you. Relationships truly are the foundation to life. You are what got me thru the hard days and what will get me thru the sad days ahead. And my mom’s heart was flooded daily by so much love and affection that it helped her endure to the end. So, I am deeply grateful for you all.
