For the first time in film history, a dog has been nominated for a major acting award. Indy, a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, has received a nomination at the Astra Film Awards in the category Best Performance in Horror or Suspense for the film “Good Boy.” This is a historic moment, as the category has always been reserved for human actors until now.

In Good Boy, Indy plays a loyal pet who senses supernatural danger after moving with its owner to a quiet countryside house. The horror story is largely driven by the dog’s emotions, reactions, and instincts. Critics across the world praised Indy’s performance, saying the dog’s presence created the film’s fear, tension, and emotional depth, making the movie truly unforgettable.

The nomination has sparked global conversations about recognising animal performances in cinema.
