We found this corner tag and monument in Smith County. These are common in parts of the state, but a rare find around our area. This one has been around for a long time.
It’s nice to have a record of where the corner is located within the section and who set it.

We beat the creek! Had to bring in the robot and the kayak. We were determining the thalweg and the thread of the stream.

Bonus points to anyone who can say what these two things are and what the difference between the two are. Double bonus if you tell me if they can be determined from an aerial photo.

Opinions welcomed!

We found an iron pin that’s 2 feet west of a concrete monument that appears to predate the iron pin. About 5 neighbors property lines to the west of the property we are surveying mention the iron pin as being the forty corner. Do we hold to the monument or the pin?

Holding the monument leaves a gap between our client and multiple parties. Holding the pin closes the gap.

The location of the pin is described as the 40 corner in the neighbors deeds and there is no mention of the monument as being a corner in any records discovered so far….
