Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown is the move for a hot weekend - go in the late afternoon when the animals are active and the heat backs off. It's a manageable size (you can do the whole thing in 2-4 hours), incredibly clean, and the enclosures are beautiful.
Here's what you can do:
Hand-feed the giraffes (yes, really - $6 and worth it)
Pet the animals at the petting barn
Watch the monkeys move between their indoor/
outdoor cage
ee Ride the carousel
, Let the kids run at the playground Grab food and treats while you walk
This isn't a community find -just a solid PA day trip that doesn't get talked about enough. About an hour and 20 minutes from Berks County and completely worth the drive.
