Celebrating Our Pre-K Graduates!

Pre-K graduation is more than a celebration—it represents a year filled with learning, growing, exploring, and building the skills that create a strong foundation for the future. Early childhood education helps children develop confidence, curiosity, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.

We are so proud of how far our little learners have come and excited for all that is ahead as they take their next big step into kindergarten!

Fill the Truck is about more than donations—it’s about community coming together.

We are currently in need of diapers in sizes 3–8 and baby wipes to help care for the children and families we serve.

We’re officially STAR 4!

We are incredibly proud to celebrate an exciting achievement at the Patton Avenue Learning Center—earning STAR 4, the highest designation through Pennsylvania’s Keystone STARS program!

This milestone reflects the dedication, passion, and hard work our teachers and staff bring to the classroom every single day. From creating meaningful learning experiences to providing a safe, nurturing environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive, their commitment makes this achievement possible.
STAR 4 is more than a designation—it represents the high standard of care and education our team is committed to providing for every child and family we serve.

Congratulations to Yessenia, Emily, and the entire Patton Avenue Learning Center team! Your hard work has truly paid off, and we couldn’t be prouder. Thank you to PACCA Representative, Michelle Wonder and ELRC 13 Quality Coach for guiding us through this achievement. Brittney worked as our summer intern under SMILE Program Director, Ali. She quickly became a huge part of the client’s we serve daily lives, and was a very important part of the work we do at The Opportunity House.

Brittney brought a fresh perspective, new ideas, and a willingness to learn while working alongside our team to support the individuals and families we serve. But an internship at Opportunity House is about more than gaining professional experience—it’s an opportunity to see firsthand the power of compassion, community, and service.

Brittney’s testimony:
“My journey as a Program Intern at Opportunity House has been an incredibly rewarding experience that has shaped my understanding of what community work can really do. From my very first day, the staff welcomed me as a true partner in their mission, offering the kind of professional mentorship and trust that is rare to find. This role offered me a front-row seat to the inner workings of the nonprofit sector and challenged me to facilitate essential programs that directly serve the residents. Through this hands-on work, I saw firsthand the tangible, positive impact that dedicated advocacy can achieve. Operating in such a fast-paced environment naturally sharpened my skills in program coordination, community outreach, and strategic problem-solving. It also taught me how to think on my feet and communicate empathetically and effectively with diverse populations. I am deeply grateful to everyone at Opportunity House for their unwavering guidance and shared dedication to driving real change. I highly recommend this internship to any purpose-driven individual looking to build vital professional skills while making a lasting footprint in the community.”
