there are so many people waking up every day feeling exhausted, dealing with headaches, brain fog, congestion, sinus issues, skin issues, feeling run down, or just feeling like something isn’t right in their body… and sometimes they’ve been living with it for so long that it becomes their “normal.”

your home is where you sleep, where your babies crawl, where your family spends most of their time. it’s supposed to be the place where your body can rest and recover. so many people never stop to think that their environment could be playing a role in how they feel every single day.

one of the most rewarding parts of what we do is helping people finally start putting pieces together and getting answers. and larry gets to be a huge part of that.

what amazes us about him isn’t just his ability to work — it’s knowing that this incredible dog can help lead us toward things that may otherwise go unnoticed. every home has a story and every family has a story too.

health is everything. if you don’t have your health, everything else becomes harder.

has there ever been a time in your life where you felt “off” and later discovered there was a reason behind it? 👇

You can’t always see the problem… but you can definitely smell it.

This bathroom had a strong musty odor, but nothing visible.
It would’ve been easy to miss.

Larry didn’t.
He went straight under the sink… tucked behind the cabinet.

We tested exactly where he alerted — and it came back with Stachybotrys.

Hidden. Tucked away. Growing where no one would think to look.

This is why we trust him to lead us to the source
And why we always back his findings with testing.

If something feels off in your home, there’s usually a reason.

Don’t ignore it.

When we walk Larry through a home, his nose is our guide. 🐾

Just like police K9s — when a dog alerts to something in a trunk, they can’t physically open it themselves… they tell the handler there’s something there, and it’s up to the human to investigate.

That’s exactly how we work.

Larry helps us locate areas of concern by detecting target odors associated with moisture-impacted materials. From there, we step in with tools and testing — moisture meters, thermal imaging, air samples, surface samples, and wall cavity samples — to confirm what’s actually happening behind the scenes.

Larry points us in the right direction.
We verify it with real data.

Every alert is followed up with proper sampling and lab confirmation, so homeowners aren’t just relying on a dog — they’re getting answers backed by science.

Our goal is simple:
Find the source
Confirm it with testing
Provide clear documentation
Help families understand what’s going on in their home

Larry starts the conversation — the testing finishes it. 🐶 🏡

Meet Larry’s Handlers 🐾

This is us — Hope Scheer and Kathy Scheer, the team behind Larry at Spot On Canine Mold Detection.

My mom, Kathy, is the owner of the business and the primary handler who walks Larry through each home during inspections. She leads the assessment process, listens carefully to client concerns, and focuses on how mold exposure may be impacting health. Her priority is education — helping clients understand what Larry is indicating on, why it matters, and how to move forward in a way that supports healing. She also plays a key role in guiding clients toward experienced, reputable remediators when remediation is needed.

I work alongside her handling Larry’s training and continued education, completing crawl space and attic inspections, and thoroughly documenting Larry’s work throughout the home. I record each perimeter, note moisture issues, building defects, or visible growth, and assist in identifying areas that may warrant further investigation. We also offer core sampling when appropriate to help confirm what’s happening inside building materials and support informed decision-making.

Larry may be the detection tool, but the real value comes from interpretation, experience, and teamwork. Our shared goal is to help people get well by identifying true mold sources and providing clear, trustworthy guidance every step of the way.

Even though we use a professionally trained mold detection dog (Larry 🐾), we don’t stop there.

After Larry indicates, we physically go into crawl spaces, attics, and other problem areas to look for the source with our own eyes. That means checking for moisture, visible growth, ventilation issues, leaks, and building conditions that allow mold to thrive.

When appropriate, we also recommend core sampling. Core samples paired with a mold detection dog are the prime combination — the dog helps pinpoint exactly where the issue is, and the core sample provides lab confirmation of what’s actually there. This prevents random testing and unnecessary damage to the home.

Canine detection helps narrow the search. Visual inspection identifies the cause. Core sampling confirms the material. Together, this approach gives people real answers, not just data.

This is especially important for those dealing with unexplained or chronic health symptoms, where knowing the true source can make a big difference in recovery and peace of mind.

Our goal is simple: identify the source, confirm it when needed, and help you move forward safely.

Bathrooms are one of the most common places for mold growth due to constant moisture and poor ventilation. 🚿 In this video, you can visibly see mold on the shower ceiling—and Larry independently confirms it by giving a trained indication directly on the source.

Visible mold doesn’t always mean the problem is only on the surface. In many cases, what you see is just the result of ongoing moisture issues, and growth may extend into surrounding materials above the ceiling. This is why precise detection matters—not just identifying that mold is present, but exactly where it’s active.

If you’re seeing discoloration, spotting on your ceiling, or noticing musty odors in your bathroom, it’s a sign something isn’t right. Don’t wait for it to spread. Contact Spot On Canine Mold Detection to schedule an inspection and get clear answers so you can take the next steps with confidence.

Training Larry 🐾
We hide an odor sample in our garage and send Larry to hunt. He may get close at first — but we don’t say “yes” until he’s indicating on the exact source, not just the general area.

Why?
Because in real homes, “close enough” isn’t good enough.

We also repeat the hide multiple times before rewarding. This reinforces:
• precision over guessing
• commitment to the source
• clear, confident alerts
• consistency in every environment

This type of training builds a dog that doesn’t just find odor — he pinpoints it, even with distractions, air movement, and overlapping smells.

Accuracy is everything. And Larry knows it. 💪🐶

🐕 Meet Larry!

Larry is our professionally trained canine mold detection dog at Spot On! Canine Mold Detection. He’s trained to detect odor patterns associated with hidden mold — even when there are no visible signs.

Larry helps us locate areas of concern non-invasively, saving homeowners from unnecessary demolition and guesswork.

🐾 Fun Larry Facts:
• His nose can detect things humans can’t smell
• His favorite “reward” for a job well done? Playtime 🎾
• He knows when it’s work time vs. cuddle time
• He takes his job very seriously… until the leash comes off
• He’s happiest when he’s sniffing on an inspection
