Why are Airplanes Flying Lower than Usual Over Redmond?

You may have seen several US Forest Service aircraft landing and departing the Redmond Municipal Airport. These aircraft are easily identified by their white and orange markings.

They have been busy working on several wildfire fires that recently sprung up in our region. When fully loaded with retardant, they are VERY heavy. This means it takes them longer to gain altitude than a traditional commercial aircraft and you may experience increased noise as they fly by.
