Here’s another look at one of our recent survey flights in Madras.
After capturing over 3 miles of aerial data, we processed and classified the point cloud to create an accurate representation of the site. This allows us to analyze and model the data to fit our clients’ needs.

Accuracy is everything in surveying, which is why every flight starts with solid control. By establishing a base point, setting ground control and check points, and verifying the coordinate system, we’re able to deliver reliable real-world data our clients can trust.

Here is a sneak peek into our first SLAM to BIM project. This has been a journey for sure! From getting our first scanner to final deliverables. We now have a grasp on what is possible for Povey and Associates moving forward with mobile scanning and we can't wait to share more!

Have you ever seen a “drone video” after it has been processed? It might look a little different at first, so here is what you are seeing. This is a 3D point cloud model. We flew and scanned this college in The Dalles, Oregon, creating a detailed 3D environment of the entire site. With software from NUBIGON, we can use that data to recreate smooth, cinematic drone-style footage without needing to fly the site again. This process uses some of the same concepts you see in movies and TV shows. Maybe not quite Hollywood level, but still a fun and powerful way to create and share our work.

We’ve mastered the skies using drone based aerial LiDAR to capture entire sites with precision and efficiency. But innovation doesn’t stop there.

Now we’re taking it a step further by combining aerial LiDAR with SLAM LiDAR technology. In this project, our drone captured the complete exterior of the site from above, while SLAM LiDAR mapped the interior of the buildings from the ground. The result? A seamless dataset where outside and inside come together in one accurate 3D model.

By merging aerial and SLAM LiDAR, we’re tackling the gap between large scale site mapping and detailed interior scanning, delivering a more complete picture than ever before.

So what is SLAM LiDAR?

You’ve probably seen drones in the air capturing data of the terrain and buildings. But what happens when you need the inside?

SLAM LiDAR allows us to walk directly through buildings, corridors, and spaces while the scanner continuously maps everything around it. As we move, the system tracks its own position and builds a highly detailed 3D model in real time.

The result is fast, accurate interior data that can be seamlessly combined with aerial LiDAR, connecting the outside and the inside into one complete dataset.

From rooftops to hallways, we’re capturing it all.

Welcome to the world of Lidar and 3D models. This is what we see behind the scenes of most of our deliverable projects.

How do we get to the stages we show in this video?

Step 1: Our trained drone pilots, carefully plan and excute and flight mission gathering million of points by air.

Step 2: Process the raw data and connect the correct coordinate system to ensure accurate data.

Step 3: Classifying all points into groups, such as high vegetation, piles, roads, noise, and a ground floor.

Step 4: Create a deliverable for the client; this could be many different things, such as volumetric pile maps, drafting a 3D site plan, building models, and creating final surfaces for design.
