What's the deal with penthouses?

At some point, a home stops being a home and becomes airspace.

Take the Grand Penthouse at Fremont Street. It's 800 feet above San Francisco. Eight hundred feet! That's not a residence—that's a weather pattern.

Most of us check the forecast before leaving the house. Here, you are the forecast.

The building is said to be anchored to bedrock, engineered to survive just about anything California can throw at it, and connected by skybridge to Salesforce Park. Think about that. You can leave your home, walk across a bridge in the sky, and never have to mingle with something as common as a stoplight.

Apparently, the advertisement states that there's a concierge, valet parking, fitness center, piano bar, private dining room, lounges, media room, conference rooms... honestly, at some point you have to ask: Do I still live in a building, or have I accidentally purchased a small nation?

And then there's the view. From up here, traffic becomes abstract art.

If San Francisco is where the future of artificial intelligence is being built, this may be the closest thing to an executive suite for the future itself.

After 30+ years in real estate, we thought we'd seen just about everything.

Over the years, we've saved a few of our favorite bloopers.

Some of these photos are so unusual that we're not entirely sure whether they were taken by a photographer, a drone, or someone hanging out the passenger window at 35 mph.

One house appears to have tipped over.
Another photo leaves us wondering what exactly the photographer wanted us to notice.

We're not poking fun at anyone—just musing on a few moments where reality turned out to be funnier than fiction.

How to build a larger home, with less land...

In Belmont real estate, not all square footage is created equal. Many homeowners have heard the term “FAT” mentioned in conversations about hillside development, additions, or vacant land — but few fully understand what it means or how it can affect property value and future building potential...

⏰ Don’t Forget to Change Your Clock… Or Maybe You Shouldn’t.

Every year when we “spring forward,” heart attacks increase about 20–25% the following Monday, likely because losing just one hour of sleep disrupts our body’s internal clock. When we “fall back” and gain an hour, the opposite happens — heart attacks drop by roughly 20% for a day or two.

The effect is temporary, but it shows how sensitive our bodies are to even small changes in sleep. If we ever stopped changing the clocks altogether, that annual spring spike would likely disappear.

So here’s the question:
Should we keep changing the clocks every year… or just pick a time and stick with it?
