There is a lot of talk in the news about real estate agent commissions. They LOVE what they do and they do it because they LOVE helping people but there is almost always a huge misconception on what they do and how they get paid. It's not a secret so here ya go...😊

The average FULL TIME REALTOR’s earnings last year was $31,900 @ 40+ hours a week. (Notice I wrote full time 40+ hours not 0-20 hours a week) which is well below the living wage. As a REALTOR they do not get paid a hourly wage or salary and they
only get paid if they sell a home and it closes. They can only get paid by broker to broker. As an agent you could work with someone days, weeks, months, or years with no guarantee of a sale ever.

Essentially they wake up each day unemployed going on Job Interviews and they deal with constant rejection. They dedicate time away from family, use our time, gas, pay for babysitters, miss dinner and weekends and rarely take vacations. They are on 24/7! You constantly need to be on, or you could miss an opportunity. Once they do close a home, half goes to the other persons agent from the remaining half. They have lots of upfront expenses that must be paid out before they even get paid:

To the Realtor who spent months writing offers, driving buyers around to showing after showing, spent nights and weekends working and took time away from their families, only for that buyer to ghost them and call a listing agent off a sign or that they saw online (or they found a FSBO and decided they would cut everyone out): I'm so sorry. 😢

To the Lender who spent months working with a buyer, sending many payment calculations, reviewing documentation upfront, spending time in Approval Consultations, answering the many important questions, knowing the guidelines to work through the unique situations upfront, calling listing agents to plead for your offer and for you to WIN that offer …. Only to be ghosted after going under contract because they went with 123 lender online who did zero work, pushed a button or two 🚀 and didn’t help you win your offer and the loan officer was a dog groomer and was not in the mortgage just six months ago (true story). I'm so sorry. 😢

I know for most of us it isn't about the money and most buyers don't realize those months of work and time away from our families were for free.….. It's more about the time, effort, energy and love you put in only to have it stripped away and you not get to be there when they close and to do what you truly love which is getting families into homes. That is the ultimate WHY in our business and the satisfaction that keeps us going day in and day out and when that is taken from you, it hurts. It hurts so bad sometimes it devistates you to the core. For that pain you have felt over and over…. I'm so sorry. 😢

Buyers, please be considerate of your Real Estate and Mortgage Professionals. 🙏

We love you and we care about you, and we put so much time and energy into helping you reach your homeownership goals. It's why we do what we do- day in and day out. However, it's also completely at zero pay if you don't close with us. That time and energy is wasted and we can't get it back. We can't get those long hours and nights away from kids, family and loved ones back.

So please, please, please, for the love of everything good in this world- be considerate of those who are working for you. Ask the right questions before making random decisions. Experience Matters. Give the professionals the same respect they gave you for all those months while helping you.
