Hey everyone! Here with a quick Building Trades update from these last couple months.

We’ve connected with more than 2,000 people through our Building Trades and NNACA outreach efforts, introducing more people to the opportunities available in the building and construction trades.

To help turn that interest into a next step, our Building Trades Bootcamp gives participants an introduction to union apprenticeships, wages, benefits, and career pathways. Led by Trinity Presley, who brings more than 20 years of union building trades experience, it’s a great opportunity to learn what a career in the trades could look like.

We’re also bringing career exploration out into the field. Recent tours with McDermitt and the Children’s Cabinet have given participants a closer look at the trades and a chance to connect what they’re learning with real career possibilities.

And as we continue connecting with our community, we’re excited to welcome Safe Embrace to our growing network of partners.

We also have an update on Carville Park Apartments. All 208 apartments in our affordable housing community are fully remodeled and occupied, providing residents with updated places to call home.

From exploring careers to strengthening community partnerships, there’s a lot happening with the Building Trades.

The sheet metal and HVAC trades offer a variety of hands-on career paths, from fabricating ductwork and welding to installing, servicing, and maintaining heating and cooling systems.

Whether you enjoy creating in the shop, working on job sites, or troubleshooting equipment, there are opportunities to put your skills to work.

🥾 Our first Building Trades Bootcamp is officially in the books!

Today, participants joined us for a crash course into the Building Trades, led by Bootcamp instructor Trinity Presley!

Trinity walked the group through union construction careers, how apprenticeships work, wages and benefits, what different trades have to offer, and what it takes to get started.

The goal of Building Trades Bootcamp is simple: give people the knowledge and confidence they need to take that first step toward a career in the skilled trades. 🔨💪

A huge thank you to Trinity and everyone who joined us for our very first Bootcamp. This is just the beginning!

The Building Trades had a great time at Construction Career Day 2026! 👷‍♀️👷‍♂️🛠️

We spent the day educating students about Union Apprenticeships and the different career paths available in the union building and construction trades.

But first… we had to put them to the test. 👀 We asked students what they thought an apprenticeship was. Don’t worry, we gave them the answer at the end! 😂

Days like this are all about introducing the next generation to careers where they can earn while they learn, build real skills, and create a future in the trades. 💪

Interested in a career in the building and construction trades? Here are answers to a few frequently asked questions:

🔨 Do I need experience to apply?
No previous construction experience is required. If you have a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and an interest in the trades, you are encouraged to apply.

👷 What is a registered apprenticeship?
A registered apprenticeship combines paid, on-the-job training with technical classroom instruction. Apprentices learn from experienced professionals while working toward becoming skilled journey-level workers.

🏗️ Are skilled-trade careers only for men?
No. Careers in the building and construction trades are open to everyone. Women and people from all backgrounds are encouraged to explore apprenticeship opportunities and build rewarding careers in the skilled trades

💪 What qualities help someone succeed?
Successful apprentices are dependable, safety-conscious, willing to learn, and able to work as part of a team. A strong work ethic, clear communication, punctuality, and the ability to follow instructions are especially important.

Safety starts before the work begins. Proper personal protective equipment helps protect you and your crew from jobsite hazards.

Before starting a task, inspect your PPE and make sure it fits properly. Depending on the work and hazards present, required protection may include:

🦺 High-visibility clothing
⛑️ A properly fitted hard hat
🥽 Safety glasses
🧤 Task-appropriate gloves
🥾 Protective work boots

Additional hearing, respiratory, or fall protection may also be required. Always follow your employer’s safety procedures and the requirements for your jobsite.
