What’s next for the Northeast Connector? 🚧 A new feasibility study has identified two potential corridors — Vista Boulevard and La Posada — for a possible future connection between Spanish Springs, east Sparks and the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center (TRIC).

But there’s an important distinction: no route has been selected, no construction has been approved, and no specific funding has been allocated. The study is providing information for future transportation decisions.

Lazy 5 is one of those places I find myself visiting again and again, so I’m especially curious to see what comes from this master plan update. 🌳

Washoe County is asking the community to help shape the future of Lazy 5 Regional Park, with two upcoming opportunities to share your thoughts: a virtual workshop on September 29 and an in-person workshop on October 1 at the Lazy 5 Cottonwood Room in Sparks.

Just approved in Northwest Reno — but not everyone is on board. 👀

The Moose Ridge project will bring 46 new homes near Somersett, along with a new emergency access road and several wildfire-safety measures.

But with the Hawk Fire forcing nearby residents to evacuate just days before the vote, some council members are questioning whether the area has enough evacuation routes and infrastructure.

The council voted 4-2 to move the project forward.

Reno’s water future just took a big step forward. 💧 Nevada’s first Advanced Purified Water Facility has officially broken ground, after decades of planning and collaboration between Reno, Sparks, Washoe County and the Truckee Meadows Water Authority.

The project is designed to reuse water and create a more sustainable water supply as our region continues to grow. It’s also expected to help with both drought resilience and wastewater management — and more than $39 million in grants have been secured for construction.

🚗⚡ **Could EV and hybrid drivers in Washoe County soon pay more for local roads?**

Voters will see a non-binding advisory question on the November ballot asking whether electric and hybrid vehicles should pay an annual road-use fee — on top of existing registration fees.

The reason? As more drivers switch away from gasoline, local fuel-tax revenue is becoming harder to rely on for road repairs, maintenance and transportation projects.

A “yes” vote wouldn’t create the fee — it would signal support for the idea and give Washoe County and the RTC a position to take to the Nevada Legislature.

⚡️ A little good news for Northern Nevada utility customers! Your NV Energy electric bill could be going down this fall — but there’s a catch.

If approved, the typical residential electric customer could save about $1.86 per month starting October 1. Meanwhile, natural gas customers could see their bills increase by about $1.01 per month.

The proposed changes still need approval from the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada.
