5 areas where you can put the housing law to work
With the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act now law, attention is shifting to ensuring it delivers on its promise, write NAR's Elayne Weiss and Michael Rauber. The legislation includes more than 50 housing-related provisions and requires more than 100 federal actions to expand housing supply and improve affordability. NAR says it will work with federal agencies, Congress and local governments to help ensure the law's provisions are effectively implemented and deliver meaningful housing opportunities in communities nationwide. Five key areas where your real estate advocacy matters:
Building more homes
Expanding access to homeownership
Making federal housing programs work better
Encouraging housing innovation
Funding the new programs
"Implementation also extends beyond Washington. States and local governments will need to determine how new tools and flexibilities can work in their communities, prepare for funding opportunities and, in some cases, take action of their own to put the law into practice," says Shannon McGahn, NAR executive vice president and chief advocacy officer. "Housing providers and real estate industry stakeholders will also play an important role in carrying out new programs and policies and providing feedback on how they work on the ground."
