This painting of Sting always reminds me of his great song “King Of Pain” from the fabulous ‘Synchronicity’ album by The Police. One of the best albums of the 1980s IMO. The haunting & distinct lyrics of the song reflect Sting’s mental state at the time after a painful split from his 1st wife…

It’s one of those rare memories where I recall exactly what I was doing the first time I heard the gripping lyrics and music of this song. I was in my car running errands when ‘KOP’ was on the radio. I zipped to the nearest music store, bought the album and spent the rest of the sunny summer afternoon enjoying the album while bombing around in my 1953 MG with the top down. I picked up a friend and we ended up at Anthony’s restaurant on the waterfront in Edmonds for the sunset. We enjoyed some snacks and our usual martini, the Kamikaze ‘6-Pac’ – a specialty Anthony’s offered for fun-loving patrons. Thanks for the memory Sting!!!

If you’re a fan of ‘great’ jazz (personal preference seems to be a big thing in jazz music), I suggest checking out the exceptional 2006 studio album ‘Rewind That’ from American jazz trumpeter Christian Scott and his band. Every cut on this album is good to great! The album includes covers of the jazz greats and some of his own creations. The ‘Anthem’ album is good too. I hope you enjoy his music! 😎

Fifty years ago on March 29, 1973, US combat and combat support units withdrew from South Vietnam, after nearly 2 decades of war time conflict. We can never thank them enough or fully express the gratefulness due to the men and women who served and sacrificed during the longest conflict in United States history.

A Smaller Home Could Be Your Best Option
Many people are reaching the point in their lives when they need to decide where they want to live when they retire. If you’re a homeowner approaching this stage, you have several options to explore. Jessica Lautz, Deputy Chief Economist and Vice President of Research at the National Association of Realtors (NAR), says:
“As we see the transition of the large Baby Boomer generation age into retirement, it will be interesting to see if they move in with their Millennial and Gen Z children or if they stay put in their own homes.”

Lautz lists two options: move into a multigenerational home with loved ones, or stay in your current house. Multigenerational living is rising in popularity, but it isn’t an option for everyone. And staying put may fit fewer and fewer of your needs. There’s a third option though, and for some, it’s the best one: downsizing.

When you sell your house and purchase a smaller one, it’s known as downsizing. Sometimes smaller homes are more suited to your changing needs, and moving means you can also land in your ideal location.

In addition to the personal benefits, downsizing might be more cost effective, too. The New York Times (NYT) shares:

“Many downsizers expect to improve their retirement income stream if their new home costs less than what their old house sells for. Lower utility costs, insurance and property taxes — as well as investment returns on the proceeds — can also improve the bottom line.”

Being in a strong financial position is one of the most important parts of retirement, and downsizing can make a big difference.

Had a wonderful time with fam and friends at a Seattle University RedHawks basketball game last week at the great arena in Seattle Center. I’m sitting with one of my super awesome daughters and a few of my fabulous buddies!! What a great evening.
